Fail - but not surprised when half the text was missing on the third question in the exam paper and the invigilator took ages getting me a new exam paper.......... I then had to re read the scenario and the requirement again !! such a waste of time which could have been put to good use !!

To Jocain1 and Malithrox, congratulations to you guys and to everyone who passed p1. I commiserate to those who falied it. Me too failed it at 46%. I thought I was well prepared and did quite well, but this is the reality. Its my first time of sitting an ACCA exam and don't know how to go about revising. I got exemptions for my Accounting degree at uni. I used the LSBF textbook and revision kits mainly and looked at some past papers to prepare for the exam. Do you think this is enough or is there something I am missing? Also just to add, I also did the Auditing paper and passed with a score of 54%, but again I thought I blasted it. Please I need help in knowing which is the best textbooks to use, and what revision technique to apply. I don't attend any college. Thanks.

I passed this with 56%. I did home study using OpenTuition notes and also viewed alot of the lectures on Youtube from LSBF etc, who give some excellent tips on how to answer the questions. To anyone who has not seen these and failed, you have to view them.

Kokkosun -Same thing happen to me. My P1 is failed with 44. But I spent lots of time on it this time. I really don’t know why i failed. I went to p1 lecture and remembered all the things, I got 44! I have well prepared since my first lecture. I have attempted all question very well but failed. I want to know how they mark my answer script. Even though we submit for admin reveiw, ACCA would not reveal how they mark on my script. From our students point of view,What should we do for our motivation and reliablity on ACCA for future studying.

@dragon76 said: I got exactly the same your feelings, I finished all question, 99% surely I will pass, but in fact, i failed, so bad feelings now</blo
@carl29 said: Im thinkig about fighting my mark, I remember reading last session that a student was contacted a few weeks after the results to be told he had not actually failed, he had passed his exam, there had been an error in his marking When I have failed in the past, I would normally take it on the chin and prepare better next time, but I was so sure this time, I knew those answers and wrote confident responses, I cant believe my mark, its bugging me considerably
I have same feeling with you. I want to know the marking error is informed after the admin review or before not sumitting for review?????

for June 12 exam, i got 43 without harder study while answering two third of a 25 marks question because of time constraints, but for Dec 12 exams, with harder study, practising lots of questions and listening to becker/ acca videos p1 lectures, answering all questions and while i have the feeling to obtain the least 50 marks pass, surprisingly i failed at 27 marks. Please advise me should i pay for the administrative review and how to pass the exam?

Passed

i got 62 in first attempt, and didn't expect that much marks, when preparing i just jog down points without writing lengthy answer for past papers . Think its more about quality of the stuff you write rather than content. (eg - if writing for 10 mark questions - 5 points with brief explanation. ) also check online for guesses about questions before exams, it has worked for me...
Former userFormer user13y ago#145
please guide me in how to study P1 & F8, Am so poor in non numerical subjects.
Former userFormer user13y ago#146
anupame, i think you are right. the markers look for specific answers but is that fair given that it is not a multiple choice paper but writtten.
Former userFormer user13y ago#147
I need the advice from the admin ....... i will sit on june 2013 for p1. this will be my 4th attempt of p1 ... I dont know why i can't pass this paper even though i am well prepared ( I got 45,46,44 in the three previous attempt of P1 respectively) ... I really need some assistance

i just read the examiners report for dec 2012 he said the use of the TARA model for analyzing strategic risks was incorrect and scored low marks - i thought TARA was a generic model for analyzing risks in any situation - it was part of the syllabus so why were we penalized by the examiner for using this and what was the alternative to use? TARA cost me the couple of marks i needed to pass

Hi guys, I took the P1 last December for the first time and passed with 63. Only did 2.5 questions for want of time, but could have easily handed all questions set. I believe the trick to passing this paper is simple. Technical knowledge, whilst bolsters confidence isn't enough. You have to: A. Know your soft, medium and hard verbs in order to determine how much you write; B. you have to kept abreast with the latest news, for example - the current issues with bankers bonuses; ethical issues relating to PPI and horse meat sales; EU proposal to cap bonuses; police corruption as seen in South Africa vis a vis professionalism; UBS scandal in relation to embedded risk, the lack thereof, etc. These are just examples on how risks and ethical issues surrounds our everyday being. Read wide and relate life examples to questions - in addition to the names given in the scenario to show you have read the question and not just delivering what you have read in your textbooks. C. Kept your answer straight to the point. Hope this helps.
