Those of you who are regulars to our Forums will know that we always want to provide you with the best service we can, so we are really pleased and proud to announce our new initiative to "Advancing the quality of OBU”
We receive many, many requests to recommend great mentors but this puts us in a difficult position as while Trephena, our Forum Moderator is willing to answer questions on the Forums, she cannot take on personal students for mentoring. So we wanted to remedy this situation – the problem though was how to find mentors that truly are world class so that we could really advance the quality of your OBU experience while offering very high quality mentoring that we can endorse with total confidence.
So going forward we will provide details of first class mentors but only mentors whom we think are good at what they do and have a proven track record to match would be on this list in the future.

Advancing the quality of the OBU - OpenTuition Recommended OBU Mentors
Did my OBU RAP under Irwin. He was fantastic - he replies to my queries promptly, gives me valuable feedback and is always happy to help. I would not have done so without him!
I would personally recommend him if you are seeking a mentor. His help will be valuable to you!
Thank you Learning Luminarium & Irwin!
I passed my RAP in Period 47 on the first attempt, and would highly recommend The Learning Luminarium! I had a chance to work with mentor Irwin, who is extremely dedicated and knowledgeable. His guidance and approach towards RAP are effective.
He was always quick in responding to any questions that I had and providing feedback that allowed me to improve the quality of my report.
Thanks, Irwin, it was great working with you!

I am pleased to announce that the P47 Matthew Sykes Memorial prize for the best RAP submitted worldwide was once again awarded to a student mentored by absolute mentoring. This is the third time one of our students has been awarded this accolade
I would like to mention that I am just an 18 year old boy who cleared the OBU with First Class Honours. It would not have been possible without the help of my mentor Irwin Loh from the Learning Luminarium.
His experience and knowledge is greatly reflected in his precise advices.
A week before my submission I was still experiencing difficulties and in his packed schedule with other students, he still made sure to give me prompt advice which gave my RAP the final push it needed.
If I had to choose a mentor for any of my friends or classmates, I would go with Learning Luminarium with my eyes closed.
I am pleased to share that I passed the RAP P48 submission with first class honors on my first attempt. I would like to thank Irwin Loh from The Learning Luminarium for provide valuable feedback on the work, he is very experienced, knowledgeable and patience and he was always quick to respond to my queries.
I successfully passed my RAP 48 submission on the first attempt, and I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of my mentor, Irwin Loh from the Learning Luminarium. He guided me throughout the entire process, offering valuable feedback and keeping me on track with my research project. Irwin was always prompt in responding to my questions, usually within a few hours, and provided feedback on my research paper within 24 to 48 hours, even during the busy final week before submission.
Balancing full-time work was challenging, but with Irwin’s help, I was able to complete my research paper. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a dedicated and supportive mentor.
I highly recommend Irwin from the Learning Luminarium as a project mentor. Irwin was supportive and encouraging throughout the process. He asked questions that prompted me to think deeply about the topic and gave honest and constructive feedback. I was able to contact him outside of the mandatory meetings and he always responded promptly which helped me to keep on track with the process and meet my project milestones. With his support I achieved a B grade in the RAP and an overall first class degree.
It surprises me that a lot of people have recommended absolute mentoring. I for one found them very unprofessional, and quite frankly, very rude. Lorraine McKechnie in particular came across friendly at the start. However, it felt like as soon as they had taken my money it was as though something switched. Responses became slow and she became very short with me. I almost felt guilty for asking questions, so much so that I stopped asking and struggled along with my RAP. Lorraine talked in riddles a lot of the time and was very unhelpful, if anything, she left me feeling more confused.
Perhaps my experience is different to others but I’m starting to think the OBU project coming to an end is for the best if this is the standard of mentoring available. It cost a hell of a lot of money for a lackluster at best experience. Would not recommend.
I just received a B for my RAP 49 submission, and I sincerely thank Irwin from The Learning Luminaries for his incredible support and guidance throughout my research paper journey.
There were many unexpected challenges along the way—being hospitalized and having to rewrite almost made me give up. But his patience, expertise, and empathy made a huge difference.
From the very beginning, the materials and videos provided on the platform helped me feel less overwhelming. They broke down the research project into smaller, manageable steps. These resources clearly outlined what needed to be done at each stage and how to meet the passing requirements.
Throughout the writing process, no matter when I reached out—whether it was to seeking suggestion, clarify understanding, or get feedback on my writing—he always responded within 24-48 hours. His feedback was detailed and insightful, helping me refine my work and deepen my understanding of the topic. I had never done a research project before, but his professional yet encouraging approach gave me the confidence to keep going and passed on my first attempt.
Without a doubt, he is the best mentor I have ever had. If you're looking for a tutor who truly cares about his students' success, I highly recommend his courses—you won’t regret it!
Well. That’s a wrap for me. The P49 OBU results are out and I got a B for the report. I now have a degree to add to my ACCA affiliate status. Thank you open tuition for the all the SUPPORT from F1( now BT) to AFM.
A thank you to the moderators and a special thank you to Lorraine McKechnie and Absolute mentoring and who was recommended to me here and who guided me throughout my RAP.
All the best everyone
I have received 'A' grade for my report in the P49 submission, thanks to the guidance and help from Irwin from The Learning Luminaries! I highly recommend him as the mentor for the RAP. Following his timeline and steps, the report and submission is doable even if the whole process is daunting at first. Plus along the way, he is incredibly supportive and approachable, and responded to my queries and doubts with short period of time.
The comments he gave are constructive, and helps me in writing a more comprehensive report. I highly recommend him as a mentor if you're looking for one!
All the best!
Hi,
I highly recommend Lorraine Mckechnie from Absolute mentoring.
As a resubmission student,I was extremely concerned and was seeking guidance to rework on my project and Lorraine provided exactly that.
Her insights helped me identify and understand the requirement of each part of the project providing a clear direction to my efforts.
Unlike my previous attempt,I thoroughly enjoyed doing my project as I felt I was genuinely learning something that's going to help in my professional practice.
I am so grateful to have completed the project under her mentorship.
Highly Recommend her!!
Having Dr. Lorraine Mckechnie from Absolute mentoring as my mentor for my research project (Period 49) was crucial in helping me pass my RAP at my first attempt. From the very first interaction, Lorraine was always prompt in her replies and helped me stay focused on the expected deliverables. She helped me think outside the box, was very attentive to detail and helped me break down the research project into smaller deliverables. This was very encouraging and made the expected milestones look easier to attain; especially for someone who is juggling work , study, and other commitments. She was always an email away and always very approachable. I am grateful for this and will gladly recommend her to potential mentees.

Dear Khaula, I very much enjoyed working with you too and it's a huge pleasure to see someone grow so quickly and readily as you did, since you take feedback on board reflectively and are continuously building on your strengths. My best wishes for your future, Lorraine
I’m absolutely delighted to have passed my RAP project (Period 47) with an A on my first attempt! This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and guidance of my mentor, Irwin.
Irwin was an exceptional mentor — consistently supportive, insightful, and motivating. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. Thank you so much, Irwin!
Dear lans50,
We do not recognise this description of our services (posted above on Mar 11, 2025) nor the activity you are describing here since we have an exceedingly high rate for first time passes and also for those who come to us having failed when having previously used a different mentor.
Further evidence of Absolute Mentoring’s spectacular performance is the fact that on 3 separate occasions one of our students has won the prize independently awarded by Oxford Brookes University for the best RAP submitted worldwide.
Unlike most other Mentors, we are professional academics with years of hands-on experience of research, teaching and assessing coursework and have also been members of the Oxford Brookes RAP Marking Team, which gives us in depth insight into why RAPs fail and conversely, the approach needed to get a good grade.
You have chosen to post under the cloak of anonymity, and if you care to remove your pseudonym, we can investigate your complaint objectively. Otherwise, we must construe your comment as a malicious, potentially libellous comment and an attempt to smear our good reputation. It is of course at great variance with the experience of our many delighted and successful students all backed by our verified pass rates. We do not incentivise students to leave positive reviews either - they are all done voluntarily by very grateful genuine students.
I had the absolute pleasure of working with Lorraine on my ACCA Oxford Brookes degree project, where I focused on AstraZeneca.
From start to finish, she was incredible — professional, knowledgeable and supportive, keeping me on track when I had odd ideas!
Thankyou Lorraine!
I am delighted for you, Martin, and enjoyed working with you too. I with you well in your upcoming postgraduate studies and am sure you will continue to have great success.
I have been awarded the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting degree with UPPER SECOND CLASS HONOURS.
This was my first attempt and submission, and I achieved an outstanding result from the university.
I am incredibly thankful to have found my wonderful tutor and mentor, Lorraine, at Absolute Mentoring. With Lorraine’s exceptional guidance and expert support, I have fulfilled my aspiration of obtaining a UK degree BSc (Hons) from Oxford Brooks University. I feel very happy and appreciative!
I had my first BA degree exactly 20 years ago in my home country. The first degree is not related to my current career in the field of public accountancy practice in the UK. So it has always been my dream to have a degree in accounting from the UK. Now at the age of 42, a mum to one little girl, my dream has come true!
I wholeheartedly recommend Lorraine to anyone seeking an expert tutor for their academic journey and goals! I couldn’t have achieved this without Lorraine’s guidance.
I’m incredibly grateful to Irwin from The Learning Luminarium for his patience and unwavering support throughout the RAP. He was very responsive and provided thoughtful and constructive feedback that helped me improve with each iteration. His deep understanding of the marking criteria and ability to articulate it clearly gave me the direction I needed.
Thanks to his mentorship, I was able to pass the project on my first attempt while juggling other commitments like work and a baby. I highly recommend him for anyone looking for a mentor!
I had the privilege of learning with The Learning Luminarium – Irwin for my ACCA OBU Research Project, and I am truly grateful for his support. With his guidance, I passed on my first attempt and achieved an A grade, which was one of my proudest achievements.
This was the first time I felt I had learnt so much. He set clear deadlines and a structured timeline, and despite English being my second language and my limited experience of writing outside of ACCA, he never made me feel discouraged. He guided me every step of the way, provided feedback, and was always available for questions.
Completing this research came with many challenges, and at times I felt like I would never get there as I trying to juggle life and work commitments but Irwin’s patience, encouragement, and positivity made a huge difference to my confidence and success. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for dedicated and supportive guidance.
Truly grateful and thankful to Irwin from The Learning Luminarium. I passed my RAP on the second attempt! He identified the weaknesses in my project and guided me throughout with incredible clarity and support, helping me understand exactly what needed to be done. He was very patient with my questions, explained everything clearly, and made the RAP process so much smoother. Irwin is not only highly professional but also very understanding and supportive. I’m truly grateful to have chosen him as my mentor for my P50 submission, and I would highly recommend him to anyone working on their RAP.
I passed my RAP with Second Class Honors and Grade B in the first attempt and I would like to thank my mentor Lorraine McKechnie from Absolute Mentoring for her immense support and guidance throughout the process.
She was extremely helpful, supportive, motivating & respectful from the start to the finish and also accepting/understanding of the ideas I proposed for the issues at hand.
Despite being late in submission of my drafts which impacted the decided schedule, she was very accommodating and her responses to my queries were always detailed, helpful and straight to the point as she provided examples along with the needed explanation.
Her feedback on my drafts enabled me to structure my report effectively, adjust my sentences to meet the word limit and improve professionalism in my report.
Initially I felt the number of meetings offered might be insufficient, but as the OBU project progressed, my queries were answered in the meetings and through the emails, hence I felt the number of meetings (3) were sufficient as per the time available to complete the OBU project.
One of the main reasons I considered Lorraine for mentoring was for her extensive experience as a marker for a long period of time. This helped structure/improve my report and meet the marking criteria from the examiner's POV.
Her response to my emails was within the timeframe of 3-4 days, even though there were some delays at times, the response was always satisfying and helpful as needed.
Anyone who is comfortable with the structure of mentoring offered by Lorraine McKechnie and is willing to put in the effort required along with asking questions proactively, should definitely consider Absolute Mentoring.
I have a question regarding in-text citation in the Research and Analysis Project.
1. When making an in-text citation regarding Annual reports, shall I inclue the legal form of the company. Which is the correct one- Tesco Plc,2023 or Tesco,2023
2. I created charts for the ratios and all calcualtions are done by me in the Excel file. I will copy the charts into the Word file. However, should I include the financial statements as sources below the charts since all calculations were done by me and calculated ratios are not available in the statements.
I would like to thank Lorraine from Absolute Mentoring for guiding me to a first time RAP pass with a B grade. The OBU program will end this year, but I hope to recommend Lorraine for any future services offered, as she was very professional and supportive throughout the entire 3 month process.
Thanks again!
Shen
