APM*** ACCA P5 June 2018 Exam Results ***

in P5 I think it is vital to plan your answer first. Simply draft it, before writing any longer discussion. Previously I wrote much more and failed. This time I answered almost every question, by bullet-pointing my plan. Only few bullet points were not discussed deeper where I think I still scored 0,5 or 0,25 mark at least. This is how Kaplan is teaching the exam technique. 1st plan then come back and add couple of sentences with application to scenario. And of course ATFQ =)

Hi All, when preparing for P5, I noticed it was a very short syllabus with quite a lot of models etc. The key here is to watch the lectures and make notes while watching. Make your notes as clear as possible for revision purposes. When it comes to revision time, read through your notes only for approx 2 days and then do past papers on the ACCA website, A past paper a day. When doing the first 3 or 4 past papers, do not time yourself but simply read the questions thoroughly and try to understand what it asks of you. It is important here that you do not try to write an answer down here. My method is to read the question and then get a bunch of plain A4 paper and write out the full answer as in the answer booklet. This will help your confidence and also teach you at the same time. If you do this 3 or 4 times then youll soon be perfect at answering the questions. This is the method I used for all my written papers and I passed all P level papers at the first attempt. Nearer to the exam date, go through your notes again but this time only do 2 past papers max, 1 of them can be timed but not both of them or your fingers will be on fire on exam day. Dont forget every point you make must be linked to the scenario!!! Goodluck.

Failed at 1st attempt with 33%. I'm really shocked as I was reasonably well prepared for the exam and didn't feel it was a total disaster on the day. Is the administrative review through acca worth paying for? I know my paper won't be re-marked but it would help to know where I went so wrong!!

The admin review won’t tell you where you went wrong, they just add up the marks to make sure they add up, I called them last year when I failed on 48 and was told that close fails are automatically remarked, so the admin review doesn’t even remark the paper, they take your money then add up the marks on the paper to make sure you were given the correct result, sorry but sadly no feedback

Sat both P5 and P7. Passed both. P5 was 68% after two attempts.

Got 63% second attempt and Done with ACCA. Need to know what was the highest score for P5 June ? any Idea.

FAIL 1st attempt - 48 2nd attempt- 43 only P5 is left...will be working really hard for Sept attempt Insh Allah...pls feel free to give me some guide lines & tips

Everyone is passing P5 apart from me. I must be retarded. :( :( :( I was very very good at performance management at university but this P5 disaster is soul destroying.

I did the B question which I was the strongest on, then A then B, but stuck to the allocated times on each.

Come on, most people who fail dont share , so dont believe every body are passing and you are the worse one. I failed in my 3rd attempt.So fed up but hard to give up when I look at all the money and time I spent on ACCA.

What did u do different in this sitting for those who were resitting

Thanks to Almighty that I passed both P2 and P5 this sitting with 50 marks each. I was really unsure of P5 pass as I had no clue over that 12 marker variance question (4th Q-Part B) and left it completely. Q1 was also bit ambiguous with questions ranging from different topics from a relatively small scenerio. The only question that I attempted with full confidence was Q3 Corporate failure and I think that saved me big time to get that magical figure of 50. Should have scored something in the range of 18-20s in that Q I believe. Thank God. Coming to the point, I don’t want to emphasize the cliches like time management for each part of the questions, answer planning and practicing exam style questions before exams. They are very important. Period. I had slacked in a few and that burned me right from the exam hall to the result declaration. You can imagine how a 50 scorer will feel. What I believe most people ignore but is very important to P5’s success is writing style. Though bullet points are not preferred, it’s important that you MUST leave a line space for each relevant point you make. This surely enhance your chances of getting reward for each of your relevant points. The answer script will look legible, the marker can spot your point easily and you get a tick and a mark for each points. Don’t cram in more than 5 sentences in a para. If you believe that you got different points to make and are sure that you will get a mark for each of them, you MUST separate those points with a blank line. Trust me guys, it’s very important. Next important stuff that’s very relevant to P5 is not to question spot. Alex has openly challenged that he will catch those people out. For example, as corporate failure has already come this sitting, don’t assume that it’s not going to come in next sitting and ignore that topic altogether. I know my friends who did that and left dejected. The best approach is to cover up the whole portion and attempt few questions from the exam kit. The next approach which is not recommended is that, If you don’t have time to attempt those questions, understand the questions from each topic and read through the answers at the back and memorize some basic stuffs like I did. The last but not the least is Love the P5 topics. Though I was not a good learner which is evident with my 50 marks, I loved P5 topics as it’s closely linked to real professional/business life. My tutor always said most of the times there are no right or wrong answer in P5 unless you justify your answer sensibly. I think I have gone overboard

I failed UK P 6 three times with 35, 33, 27 in Dec 17, Mar 18, Jun 18. Giving up , so please advise which optional to take P 4 or P 5 ? Those who have taken both of these papers which should I go ? I have easily cleared P 7 as I am a wordy person rather that numbers one. I hated F 5 and barely passed on 3rd attemtp. Enjoyed F 9 and understood concepts much better that in F 5. Passed on 2nd attempt with higher mark than in F 5. However, I've red somewhere that P 4 is a too technical and quite specilised area syllabus (like P 6). If you do not work in that area you will not understand for example hedging . You have to know many things than in P 5 where you do not have to have the special knowledge but common sense. But I did not know F 5 concepts well . Do you think that good knowledge of F 5 is a key to pass P 5 ? I did not like P 3 but passed it easily with no preparation even with marginal score. Just wrote what I think and knew the models.

I was also the person who failed 3 times and was trying to understand what I am doing wrong. I was aware about the facts like applying to scenario, answering remembering to askung yourself why or so what in order to get deeper answer. What I did different this time I subscribed to the course with Mustafa Muchhala, you simply write your answers and he is checking it providing you the comments which are driving you to the right direction. I finally passed and I am sure that its due to his help. He is helping people like us, struggling to pass and what is also important he knows how the positive attitude for p5 is needed. He starts from this :) Good luck everyone and dont give up.

1st attempt and passed! This was the last paper. An affiliate now. Still cannot believe it I passed! I self studied and did all professional paper with open tuition lectures and notes plus BPP books. Thank you To all lecturers at OPEN TUTITION, you are great support!

I have really suffered and have been oppressed for more than 5 years. Jesus is Lord. I have suffered shame, disgrace and pain in my life but God in His mercy has looked upon my affliction and had compassion on me. Glory be to God who is all poerful.

Hi Kelkar, Straight to the point, F5, F9 and P3 knowledges are supplementary to P5’s success even though it’s not a necessity. Few of the variances from F5, NPV, IRR calculations from F9 and few models from P3 are present in P5 and it’s quite easy. You will be better placed and will grasp the contents quickly if you have knowledge from those papers. Being wordy doesn’t mean that P5 is really suitable to wordy people. P5 is a small subject compared to other P level papers. If you have interest in it’s contents (which you can understand by referring its syllabus), you will start loving it. Unlike P1 and P3, words doesn’t matter here. Points related to “scenario” matter. If you can write a scenario related sensible point, you will score a mark and will not score any even if you dumb all the GK. My friend who doesn’t like P3 but passed it was advised not to go for P5 by our tutor. P4 obviously is very technical which is closely related to F9 in particular. Check out the syllabus of both these papers and try to score your likes and dislikes in each papers. Best of luck.

Very true Mona, you are right. Hopefully in September I will succeed. I booked my resit, another £132 gone. I will only practise under timed conditions going forward and hopefully that will force my brain to not get bogged down with details too much and to see the overall picture quicker and draft up answer plans quicker.

Wow you passed at 13th attempt? Wow wow wow. What did you do differently to finally pass?
