General ACCAPER Statements Help

LLucy10y ago
Hi Everyone, I am so confused about what to write in the statements. I'm currently on the Professionalism and ethics module, seeing as I worked in a finance role for three years I am sure that I have acheived the elements of this objective but just cannot put it into words. I have recently left the job and my supervisor is waiting for me to claim the 7 objectives that I earned there but I am already stuck on the first one :( I've looked at the ACCA guide which just says the below, which doesn't give me an idea of how to summarise how I acheived it: YOUR STATEMENT What should I write? Each description should be a concise explanation of how you achieved the performance objective description. Remember that you only need to cover the broad description of each performance objective. You don’t need to summarise all the activities you carried out to achieve the individual elements. We’ll need details of one or two tasks that you’ve been involved with for every performance objective. The tasks should relate closely to the objective’s description. Remember there is a limit of 200–300 words for each statement. When writing your statement: • be concise • avoid using jargon or abbreviations, unless they are explained. • provide evidence and examples to help illustrate your statement. • avoid repeating information or making reference to other statements. Remember that your experience is unique and your statement should be unique too. I'm not expecting anyone to tell me exactly what to write, I'm just really stuck on this one !! Please help!! Lucy

Right, I've just done a major clean up of this thread. There were countless post of people saying nothing but "please send samples of your PER to my email address". This was clogging up the thread and detracting from the discussion of the topic. No one is watching this thread waiting to email their PER to anyone who posts here. Such requests will go unanswered. I also suspect some of the accounts were not genuine students, but spammers or bots. If you're struggling with PER then please read this thread in full. If you actually read it, there is lots of good advice from different students, and 2 people have actually posted a sample in this thread! Now that the other posts have been deleted, this will be easier to see and read. If you're struggling, perhaps you could have a go at creating a statement and then post it here and we could see how it could be improved. However, you need to remember that PER is specific to you as an individual. If you have a genuine question about PER or you're a qualified student who wants to post their examples then please do post it here, but any more posts begging for PER samples will be deleted.

The example from Chris is as far as I am aware, exactly what is needed as I have had all of mine signed off along similar lines. Just look at the objective, imagine someone asked you what do you do at work to achieve the objective and whatever you'd say to them, that is your answer.

Thanks for your sharing.

If you check this link from the ACCA website, the examples are given for each objective. You can then give a situation according to which example you relate to. https://www.accaglobal.com/content/dam/ACCA_Global/Students/per/PER-Performance-objectives-achieve.pdf

I have recently submitted my PER for 'Tax computations and assessments as my experience in doing VAT returns.' My supervisor (who's chartered with ICAEW) questioned if experience in VAT is enough to fulfil the objective as he thought it was more personal/corporation tax related. I have contacted ACCA and learnt that they don't advise on the PER and it's up to the supervisor to decide. Am I wrong thinking that VAT is a tax and doing vat returns gives you experience is Tax computations and assessments?? Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Referring to your question whether VAT qualifies for PER as tax, I can say yes because: - had similar situation with my ICAEW qualified mentor and we agreed that A. Vat is a tax indeed B. It involves computation and assessment C. It is part of your experience One could argue that broad topic as such should cover in fact all three starting from VAT to CT and Personal Tax Returns and maybe even CIS, but, in my understanding, even if you have experience in all of the above, 500 words simply won’t be enough to use as examples of work performed. Also, depending on your role and duration of employment, just bear in mind that 3 years in general will likely have you exposed to number of taxes and you won’t need to amend what you have already submitted back then. The point is, that you actually state how you have achieved objective without worrying that it will be expanded in the future to new areas such as CT etc. As long as your mentor is satisfied with your current achievement and that you understand the methodology, neccessary evidence and apply regulations that is what you have learned from and can export such skills and apply in other areas if necessary. I would in fact gently hint them that although VAT is sufficient, you could only benefit from additional taxes exposure, surely January must have plenty of opportunities within, Best of luck!

What do you mean by a PER audit?

Hi, For how long Per is valid? I still have 3 exams to go, would not like to do Per twice. Thanks!
KimKimTutor5y ago#46
You have to accumulate 36 months - it doesn't expire. https://www.accaglobal.com/us/en/help/student-faqs-practical-experience-requirements.html

Hey ds3ce, any chance you could share how you met the performance objective 8?

Does anyone know what they mean by 'external' in objective 7. Prepare external financial reports? I do not work in practice however, I do contribute to financial statements of our company but I wouldn't call them external. There are a lot of objectives typical for work in practice and I'm struggling to find enough technical objectives that I could meet.
KimKimTutor3y ago#50
@Orfiel Welcome to our forums! It's something that's covered in the early papers - FA and MA. External financial reporting is to outside the entity - so yes indeed, annual financial statements that are prepared for shareholders/investors/filed with companies house (if in the UK) are external. Internal financial reports are for internal use - e.g. monthly management accounts.

HI I have over 15 years of Audit experiance however it is all from the client side. I have never worked in practice but am the main point of contact for the Audit. Can I use this experiance for complete the Audit and Assurance PER? TIA
KimKimTutor2y ago#52
I don't see why at least some PER objectives might be met from a client perspective, but I advise that you discuss with your PER supervisor – it is their role to guide, help and support you in this https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/practical-experience-per/practical-experience-supervisor.html
