Oxford Brookes degree -Grading & Graduation Questions

Hello guys.. Now i have completed all F papers and my scores are below. F5- 59 F6- 73 F7- 65 F8 -63 F9- 69 Average is 65.8 Question: will this be approximated to 66? And does this mean if i get an A in the Research Thesis i will get a first class? Thanks.

The average mark is rounded up. You will need to consult the table in the Information Pack to see what your average mark will give you if you get when combined with the grade for your project. By the way you are will be producing a report for the Research and Analysis project -this is NOT a thesis. A thesis is a term reserved for a very detailed academic piece of work upwards of about 50,000 words that is produced for a doctorate (a degree that takes about 3 years full-time study)!

it is a degree from University and which is approved. Getting the degree is not easy either. Just get that degree with point 1 or maximum 2, then I will discuss with you the quality of it.

I'm pretty sure pass remains a pass! with your current avg. 56, you can only gain 2:2 class degree i.e. 2nd lower class whether you get A or C Regards

my average marks in F-4 to F-9 is 52 %. i want to know should i proceed to get the degree, because on this basis, i ll be awarded "third class Honours". and one of my colleague told me that its a sort of "Fail". Please guide me i am so confused about.

I want to ask about the classification of grade... Sorry for starting a new topic! If a student don't pass F5 for 2 times and at 3rd attempt pass it with 62%, the grade that the ACCA will take to calculate the average mark (f4-f9) for the F5 will be 62% right? It will not be 50% (f5) because you didn't pass it at the 1st attempt. I hope you understand and please help me on this matter. Thank you!

Only pass marks are considered when the calculation is made so only the successful mark enters the equation. In response to an earlier query by @Tahir - you are stuck with the mark you got when you passed, no resits are permitted. Seems unfortunate but I suppose those are the normal rules applied by universities in the UK.

Dear sirs, I am submitting my rap project on May but i am quite discouraged as my overall grade is 56 which whatever grade on rap i get will receive a 2:2. I know its a very good achievement as i am working 2 years now and doing the exams but still i have any chance to apply for big4 companies? Am i rejected for any jobs that i am applying? Please give me some advice, i am feeling down !

Dear @pete28 Try not to be too discouraged. It is true that the Big 4 usually expect a 2.1 or above. However depending where you live there are some very good 2nd and 3rd tier firms (Grant Thornton, BDO Stoy Hayward, Pannell Kerr Forster and the like) who may be prepared to take you on and the training and experience you would receive would be just as good. Bigger is not always better! Life is sometimes about challenges and although we cannot always get what we want with the benefit of hindsight things often turn out better when we have to take alternative courses of action. It may seem like the end of the world now but you are at the start of your career and there will still be lots of opportunities open to you. All the best Trephena

Begin your findings with application of the models (SWOT and PEST(LE) are best for T8) in relation go your main company and try to see how those factors have influenced management decisions. Although you are not required to conduct models for the comparator it may be helpful to you and assist your comparisons if you did a rough SWOT for the competitor in your notes (the PESTLE would mostly be the same as their business environments would be similar). A good evaluation links the factors from the models to financial performance by tracing the factors to strategic decisions (read the CEO and directors' reports as these often indirectly mention future plans etc.) and then the impact of these decisions on results ( I try to do this in the example I give in my article on evaluation). The stronger your links to the models the better the analysis usually and this is what will give you a better grade. They expect more than just a comment that one company outperformed the other and by how much (in fact as this is obvious from the graphs there is not much point in just repeating what the marker can already see in the graphs) - it is the reasons and factors that lie behind this that you are expected to evaluate

There is no fixed pass rate or quota for grades. The Assessment Criteria (Appendix 1 of the Information Pack) set out the requirements for a pass and grade. Normally the better the clear well structured evaluation the higher the grade as it reflects how well the criteria have been applied (i.e. how well researched the RAP is, how well the models have been applied and clarity of how the data is presented and appropriately explained)

which universities can one apply to for Masters in US after completing OBU and gaining ACCA affitliate?

Average of all 6, unfortunately for you. Have you checked whether your RAP grade if higher than a C might give you a First?

Fortunately, I passed OBU RAP 34 period.. and I'd like to attend thr graduation ceremony. Anyone knows the dates?

Depends where in the world you live. The UK ceremony is normally June, Dubai is February and there is usually a ceremony held in the Far East sometime in October (although I am not sure if there is one there this year). There used to be some basic info in the Information pack about these. Invitations are sent out and you have to book a place.

Hello guys. According to what i read on some comments, one of the people said OBU grade is assessed by the first attempt score, whether you fail or not. Is it true? so under that theory, on assumption that a student was absent in sitting the exam that is one of the appraised exams like F456789, this guy would get zero mark in that absent subject? if it is true, it would be pathetic... The ACCA average mark will be calculated by taking the numerical average of the marks achieved in the Fundamentals Skills papers (F4–F9) that you have sat and passed. above is one of the written posts by OBU degree pdf contents. I think the score which they use to generate the average score is based on passed exams....

Exactly -only the mark for a pass is used to calculate the average when deciding which class of degree is awarded (along with the relevant pass grade for the RAP) Note: we already have a forum topic for dealing with grading questions and therefore this new thread was not required and has subsequently now been closed

Hey guys, just got my final F1 to F9 exam result today and found out that my average would come to 59.5 Will they round it up to 60?

My average comes up to 62.16 and have made up my mind to go for the oxford bookes degree. The only concern I have is what can I do after I have attained this degree. Can one go for a masters degree? On a side note, if one does not wish to complete the remaining papers, what options would I have?

Yep if you get the BSc it should mean that you can the go on to do a Masters There should be a link to these via our homepage www.opentuition.com/OBU under 'News from OBU' However I thought you only got the degree when you had completed all the papers. I would have thought regardless it would be worth finishing all the papers

I went through the ACCA partnership route for OBU BSc degree, and was awarded a 2.2 based on my ACCA pass marks. Is there anything I can do to get a higher class, like submit another research project or some additional work? I’m qualified ACCA now, and found that having 2.2 degree limits my jobs opportunities as some employers ask for higher grades

No, unfortunately not. Your best option if you want to advance your career and need a good academic qualification is to do a Masters degree (an MBA would be complementary to the ACCA qualification). Although most universities may say you need a 2.1 or above to get on a Masters programme, I am sure with your ACCA and a 2.2 they would not turn you away. Sometimes there are additional professional qualifications that you can study for depending on what your goals are and where you live. For example in the UK there are exams for the Institute of Taxation. I myself did a Masters in Forensic Accounting Try not to be too despondent as there are alternatives it's a case of exploring them. Unfortunately good courses do cost but see it as an investment in your future. Good luck!

Although some universities do announce it when a student achieves First Class honours (or place a special asterisk against their name on the list of graduates), this has never been the case as far as I can ascertain with Oxford Brookes. In fact I have attended graduation ceremonies at four different UK universities (including OBU) and although 2 did distinguish between First Class honours and the remaining degrees for bachelor level degrees and also announced the Distinction grade for a Masters level degree no mention was made of the particular grade achieved for any of the students who fell outside the First Class / Distinction level. I have attended many OBU graduation ceremonies (including three in June 2018 albeit in Oxford, not Kuala Lumpur) and even for Masters degrees students achieving a distinction were not singled out (much to the disappointment of one of my own students). I am fairly certain therefore that you will be announced just by name and no reference will be made to your honours classification
