APM** ACCA P5 December 2014 Exam Results **

Passed by 51% on first attempt :) One more exam to go (P4).

So upset to get 42% and my 3rd attempt, final paper! I'm getting old and just want to qualify. Not sure whether to give up on ACCA completely now! So bored of keep sitting the same exam! It's embarrassing as well. Keep telling my colleagues and family, oh yes I failed again!! Congratulations to all those who passed. Very jealous of you.

Passed with 52% was expecting a little higher but more than happy that I'm done with exams

Passed P5 & P4, no more exams left. What a relief! Many thanks for OpenTuition, the platform helped a lot in going though all exams, juggling studying, work and family life!

Annoyingly I failed again and registered with OT to express my frustration. It is a hard exam. I've failed it 3 times, I have a family to raise, 3 kids, extremely demanding job, away most months and self studied all papers. Deborah, well done for you, but I feel that your message is a bit patronising. I'm sure there are alot raising famies here and have demanding full time jobs like myself. Doesn't make you a super hero. To those saying, oh I passed first time 20 papers in one year. Good for you, I'd say, get a life! You probably still get your nappy changed by your mummy. :) sour grapes? Of course. Share you've passed, but don't go on put it in my face that you're affiliate And also tell me the story of your life how you got there, as frankly I don't really care, it's not gonna make my life an inch better. Firstly congratulations to those who pass p5 this round and those who did not make it, work hard. I pass with 55% first attempt, I owe a big thank you to all open tuition members and lecturer who wrote post a nice exam technique on how to tackle p5 in the forum such as 1)Finally I can understand what Alex Watt want in P5, i passed p5 at 75 marks. 2) How I scored 81 marks in P5 in Dec 2012 3) How I (Finally) passed P5 Those taking p5 in the future must read all the post . 2 nd attempt and again fail - 38%. Feel unhappy :(

ACCA completed. Bit surprised, I expected 60-70 points on P5, scored only 54. A pass anyway. Overall, I passed all exams on the first try. I only flunked P2 once, but I attempted it without any preparation. Had it not been for my former employer, I would have never started ACCA. I found only P2 useful + maybe the exams with finance focus (F5 etc). The rest, especially P1 and P3 are stitched together from past content and some useless mgmnt theories. I think the main purpose of these exams is for ACCA to collect more money. Good luck to everyone!

Passed with 61 - feeling very happy ????

Congrats to all who have passed, this is my final paper and i have failed for the fourth time, should i switch papers now? I feel i have a mental block about what the examination team wants. I got 40% with 42% in December, help!!

P3 57% and P5 52%, so happy. Thought I had failed P3 and would pass P5 with a higher score but definitely not complaining. One more to go, probably P4, fun times. Well done everyone who passed and better luck next time if you didn't

5th attempt and I passed with 61. Here is the history of my past results Dec 2012- 44 June 2013- 45 Dec 2013- 30-something June 2014- 46 Dec 2014- 61 Results are quite shameful, but the end for me is the most important goal. I would like to encourage everyone to please be resilient, if you failed this time. Anyone to share tips on passing p5. I failed 3rd attempt with 43%. I am not giving up therefore please can someone come to my rescue...I just want to become an affiliate guys. This is too much to bare! !!

Not sure where I am going wrong. I wrote 9 subjects consecutively without failing but p5...aah ya...I surrender!!

Asalaam aleikum everyone. Firstly congs to those who made it and good luck for the future exams to those who didn't make it this time. My post is intended for those who are still struggling. Firstly, I have just passed this paper P5 this time with 78% (11th attempt.....yes..11th), and an affiliate now and with all other membership requirements already ticked, I pray I'll have full membership status in a month or so. Pls pls pls....don't give up...please. Keep fighting....n fighting and you will get it. The only thing I did different this sitting is to do proper answer planning. I didn't do any revision...not at all.....all I did was learn to properly plan my answers and bang..I got it. The revision I did was to do as many question answer planning as possible...n tht was it. Ofcourse I had all the knowledge having done it already all those times. Am happy to talk to anyone. I love in London n we can talk anytime for anyone wanting to talk. Just let me knw. But the key point here is.... 1.DONT GIVE UP 2. ANSWER PLANNING Asalaam aleikum!

First attempt- 69%. For those guys that failed please don't give up. The exam itself is not particularly difficult, but it is very time pressured! The best advice I can give is this: 1. Read the Question requirement correctly. Time and time again the examiner says in his report that this is the biggest reason people failed. For example a common mistake is assessing performance when the examiner asks to assess the report that is used to assess performance! 2. Read all the examiner articles and examiner reports. 3. Attempt as many past papers as possible. 4. Revise the whole syllabus. I have one exam left now but I have had the same exam technique throughout ACCA, with all first time passes. Lowest mark I achieved was 62% on F9 and highest was 85% on F5. I understand people learn in different ways but for those that may find it helpful this is what I do: 1. Read the chapter in the textbook. 2. Re-read, this time writing your OWN notes in your OWN words. 3. Once you have finished all the chapters, you will then have a full set of revision notes in your own words. For P5, I had 90 A4 pages, just to give you an idea of the dedication needed. 4. I usually try and complete this at least 2 weeks before exam, and then I read these notes every night before I go to sleep (I read a study somewhere that this is the best way to retain information). 5. I then attempt usually last 3-4 years past papers, referring to examiners report when marking my own answer. 6. Read all the examiner articles, these can give you tips on how the examiner likes to discuss the topic and any particular problems he sees with the issue at hand. I understand this will not work for everyone, but for those who have failed a few times, it may be worth a try to use a different approach? It does require a lot of dedication and hard work to follow the above revision schedule, but I usually start the process 5/6/7 weeks before the exam. I work full time doing very long hours so no excuses people! Good luck for next time! I hope the above helps, even if it is just one person it helps!

Passed, 67%. That completes my first time passes across all papers. Average mark 72%; highest 89%. My personal approach to exams: 1. Make mind maps of difficult topics, your brain doesn't think in lists. 2. Practice past paper questions, and ruthlessly analyse your answers. 3. Make sure your hand is in shape (used to writing continuously for 3 hours). 4. Review the examiner's comments from previous exams to see what he/she raises. 4. Finish studying by 7pm the night before an exam. Go for a walk, relax and get to bed. 5. Be brutal with your time management in the exam. 6. Plan answers. The last three points are so important. If you have studied hard, then you will know what you need to know. You're not going to learn anymore by staying up late the night before an exam. Give your brain a rest, and the next morning in the exam you will be able to recall what you know much more easily. Also you have more chance of reading the question properly (did you notice I listed '4' twice above?). For time management, there is a good technical article on the ACCA's website that covers why this is good. But in summary, if you don't answer all questions you make it very hard for yourself to pass. It seems counterintuitive to leave a question part way through if you're out of allocated time for it, but trust me: MOVE ON. You can go back to it later if you have time. Finally, planning answers. The four professional marks on these papers are an absolute gift. Make sure you get them. Lay it out in the right format and make a quick note on the exam paper (not the answer book) what your report will say and how. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Without one you'll be off making rambling points that may even end up contradicting each other. Be brave enough to spend a few minutes planning, and remember: a) Identify point/issue from the scenario. b) Explain why it is a point/issue. c) Make recommendation. d) Repeat (until you run out of points or marks). One other thing on reports. If you have to write a report and there is data given in the question, on the first page of your answer write 'Appendix', underline it, then do all the calculations you need to do. Add a note for the examiner saying: 'For exam purposes, I have placed the appendix at the beginning of the report, rather than the end.' The point of this is to get you the information from the data (the trends) to help you write the body of your report, and it is neatly out of the way of the main body of your text. By placing it at the start you don't have to worry that it will be messy or that you'll run out of room, and the note to the examiner is saying that you are well aware it should be at the end but in an exam it is not practical. It's always worked for me. Good luck, see you on the other side.

PASS WITH 59% and now affiliate.....feeling happy, i was not sure what it would be-a pass or fail.

@naffie1974 don't worry friend, this is final paper of professional course, it will be tough, but don't lose hope...start preparing from now...u knw what i did- i just spent few days on text book,not going too detail in those topic which em familiar before such as NPV,ROCE,RI,Maximax, Minimax which were carried forward from previous papers. If you do 70-75 questions of BPP Revision Kit twice seriously, then u can easily score 60+ marks in p5.
