Hey there, im relatively new to this forum and have a question regarding the upcoming exam session. But first a little bit of myself.
I am currently working for one of the Big 4 within the audit department. Quite recently I earned a B.A in Accounting/Financial management and sat for the CFA level II exam this june.
Because I am planning to earn a Master degree (Msc professional accountancy UoL via PGcert) – starting next january – I need to sit the 4 remaining F papers (F6 – F9) in the upcoming september exam session. Note, I were exempted for the rest of the F papers due to my degree. I just glanced through the notes for f7,f8,f9 (BPP) and noticed that some of the syllabus is just review (especially f7 and f9). However, since I did not write any ACCA paper before it is hard for me to predict the “real” workload of these papers.
What is your opinion about this situation? Would you give it a try or is the workload to heavy?
Kind regards
June 15, 2016 at 5:24 pm #323092Well 4 papers are no joke, that’s for sure but based on your background I think you could make it. Just to help you making an informed decision here are some details about me:
I have also sat 4 papers the first time after enrolling: F2,F3,F5 and F7 and passed them all. I prepared them in 6 months.
I carefully chose that combination to take advantage of the many overlaps.
In addition, I work full time in a financial reporting department (bank) so that helped, especially for F7.
I also have a master in accountancy however I don’t think people can simply rely on their knowledge/experience to pass Acca papers. You will need to get used to the style of these papers and practise many past exam questions.
I do not have any Audit background (other then answering queries from Auditors every year lol) and found F8 one of the easiest papers along with F6 (there are many details to be memorised for this one but overall it is not complicated).
I have daily exposure to derivatives and other financial instruments in my job, so I really enjoyed F9. Your CFA knowledge should definetely make your life easier there.
I have always used OT materials and lectures only to prepare all my exams. Never used a study book.
However I purchased up-to-date revision kits and practised all questions as much as possible.
There is also a very helpful Ask the tutor forum with loads of information.
I hope this helps… Good luck!June 17, 2016 at 12:15 pm #323275thanks for your thorough response. I just can Image your pain you go through every year answering the first year audit assistants questions :D:D
As you already pointed out the format of the ACCA question is quite different from that of the CFA. This might be an Issue. I just started to watch the Lecutres for F9 (almost finished all of them) and will go through the BPP notes this weekend. Subsequently I will only do the revision kit (like two or three times). I will do the same procedures for the other exams.
Kind regards
