Ask the Tutor ACCA BT

WHAT DOESTHIS MEAN

The tall and narrow organisation is a type of organisation where a manager controls a small span of people, 2 for example. The manager, since he/she controls a small span of people can keep a closer eye on them so the employees feel the pressure way more. In the wide and flat organisation there is a single manger who controls a bigger span of people, for example 7, and it’s the most common type of organisation used because the employees feel way less pressure on them by the manager (since he/she has more people to check on) but nevertheless do a good job because they want to avoid being strictly controlled by the manager. Hope this helps

Span of control around 6 or 7 is good. Little micromanagement but support from ma ager when needed.

SoC of, say 2, ,end too much management is possible.

SoC of, say 15, meand manager has insufficient rime to give each subordinate.
