What are financial liabilities

the text writes: "financial liabilities - any liability that is a contractual obligation." it then lists 3 items and i am reproducing the last one: "that will or maybe settled in the entity's own equity instruments" i dont get this part. can u give an example and please expand on this sentnece. thanks

It's a share-based payment - we have an obligation that, when settled, will or may involve us issuing shares. Ok?
