Is Tort a crime? What is meant by civil wrong? Does it mean unethical or immoral conduct or more than that?

There’s a huge difference between civil wrongs and criminal acts

Thankfully (?) criminal law is not in your syllabus (except for very minor inclusions)

So, to get back to your post, no, tort is NOT a crime. It’s a civil wrong

Very, very basically, a crime is a wrong done to society at large and is typically punished by a term of imprisonment. A civil wrong is a wrong against an individual and is typically amended by a fine

Is that enough for you or do you want more?

    Hi James

That’s very kind of you to invite any further ‘important’ comments from me … but I don’t think I that I want to add much more than is already in the free course notes and the videoed lectures

But do please feel free to ask about any other matters that you come across that raise questions in your legal mind (or is it raise legal questions in your mind?)

Whatever, please do feel free to ask 🙂

Thanks for this, James 🙂 but do make sure that you also make full, extensive use of a revision kit from an approved publisher (and maybe take advantage of the 20% discount on BPP material if ordered through this site – see yellow bar above this post!)
