Thank you for explaining everything so well!

Does the videos cover exactly all the topics provided by the acca syllabus?
J
John MoffatTutor·
They cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
A

Good day, I was wondering how to actually prepare for the current FIA exams and later ACCA when I transition. Do I only refer to the lectures and notes provided by OpenTuiton ? I am still very new and with no prior commerce experience and have been struggling to find the relevant sources for ACCA preparations, past papers, exam kit questions and etc.
J
John MoffatTutor·
Our notes and lectures cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well. However it is also vital to practice as many exam type questions as possible. You can find practice question in the ACCA Study Hub and also in Exam Kits that are sold by BPP and by Kaplan.
A
Aifa·
It would be really helpful if there were subtitles in these lectures as it is difficult to understand your accent
J
John MoffatTutor·
The lectures are hosted on YouTube and if you click on the settings button you can choose to have subtitles.
The subtitles are provided by YouTube and not by us, so I cannot guarantee them to always be perfect, but they do seem pretty good :-)

Hi Mr. John,
I’m really glad I found OpenTuition – it has helped me so much in my ACCA journey. You were my first teacher for my early papers, and the way you explain things and make lectures fun kept me motivated and focused. I’ve now completed 10 papers with 3 left to go, and I’ll always be thankful for your support along the way. Wishing you and all the tutors the very best – truly grateful for everything you do!

M

I literally love you guys my school gave me 20 days to finish FFA and FMA and I am super new to ACCA and I was on the verge of a full on breakdown and panic attack because I didn’t know what to do and someone on reddit suggested you and oh my God you guys are like angels from the heavens ? thank you thank you thank you so so so much for this platform
A
Arlon·
If I'm watching the lectures and have course notes, whilst also doing practice questions and using the acca study hub. Will this be enough for BT, FA and MA?
J
John MoffatTutor·
Yes it is enough but it would be a good idea to also buy a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers because it is full of exam standard questions and answers. The more question practice the better :-)
M
Mohsen·
I only found 2018 version of the book , is there any changes in the material?
I
Ibrahim·
How can you tell if the book is the latest edition? As the deonr covers don't have years on them. Going to try get them 2nd hand instead. But wanted to know how to check it was the right edition before I buy it.
J
John MoffatTutor·
It will be printed on one of the first pages in the book.
I
Ibrahim·
sorry for al the questions and thank you for all the answers,
Seems i cant find any of the newer books 2nd hand, and Kaplan want to charge £12 for delivery for 3 books. BPP books you recommend after the lectures is the revision kit right plus the 20% off pretty much covers their £7 delivery fee.
Although i could just write on the e-books if they are in a PDF format? that would be a nice way to get it, although printed and pdf would be good.
J
John MoffatTutor·
They are not pdf books (because they are easily copied)!
M
Mohsen·
I only found 2018 version of the book , is there any changes in the material?
J
John MoffatTutor·
There have been changes. It is best to buy the current edition.
I
Ibrahim·
I have been a bit lax about the studies unfortunately, but plan on buying the first 3 books, and get a move on ACCA charge by the year not exam.
Is there a difference each year between the books or do i need to find the 22/23 books? as checking the kaplan website it just says FA Exam kit but no year on the front, as u have changed the title of the notes each year. 21/22, 22/23, thought i would check before i buy the wrong books
I
Ibrahim·
First 3 exams are suppose to be pretty simple right so just need to get the exam kits for those?
J
John MoffatTutor·
None of the ACCA exams are simple :-)
If you are watching our free lectures then it is only the Exam Kits that you really need (because practice on exam standard questions after you have finished studying is so important). It is always best to have the latest editions.
I
Ibrahim·
How can you tell the book is the latest edition? As I cant see from the front cover which year the book is?
D

hello sir im

J
John MoffatTutor·
Who are you asking? If you want to get comments from other students you should ask in the Paper FA Forum. Our lectures cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well. The only book that is essentials a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers. It is full of exam standard questions for practice, and practice is vital to passing the exam.

I
Ibrahim·
So you studied and took the papers at the same time over 2 months or 2 months each?
And do the exam kits change every year or do they change as it doesn't have a year on it. So wondering if 2nd hand is ok or if i need to check the year the book was released.
H

Hello, I need guidance and tips on how to achieve that marks in FA. Can you share any contact of yours where i can reach you out ? I am very confused from where should i start.

Respected Sir, Will it benefit OpenTuition if we watch lectures here instead of youtube? or will it be the same as whether we watch here or on youtube, I just started F3 lectures, please let me know and I will follow, I just want to support team OpenTuition.
J
John MoffatTutor·
They are the same lectures :-)
S
Seda·
i think hes about views, hes asking is it the same counting views to watch lectures in here or in youtube ?
J
John MoffatTutor·
Oh I see :-) The costs of running this website are covered by the advertising. It makes no difference for us whether you view the lectures on our website or on YouTube. However it is easier to find the lectures on our website because they are all indexed (and, of course, there are other free resources on our website such as the lecture notes and the practice test).

Dear Sir,
is there any partial marking in Financial accounting? In Business and Technology, there was partial marking in MTQ section. Is there any partial marking system in Financial accounting too?
J
John MoffatTutor·
Yes there is :-)
I
ishamadhani·
Sir, is there any need to read BPP textbook if I am going through your lectures? I mean, is there any need to go through textbook, when I am attending all your lectures? Can I directly jump to exam kit? And which book do you follow to teach? BPP or Kaplan?
J
John MoffatTutor·
You do not really need the textbook if you are watching the lectures. The lectures do not use any book - you need to download our free lectures notes and it is those that we work through in the lectures.
A Revision Kit is essential however you choose to study. You should work through all of our lectures (and attempt the short online tests after most of the lectures) and when you have finished studying it is vital that you practice every question in the Revision Kit.
If you have any problems on the way then ask in the Ask the Tutor Forum and I will help you.
I

Thank you Mr John
J

Next week is too soon. Not only do you need to watch all the lectures but you also need to practice all of the questions in your Revision Kit. (I am assuming that you have a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers - if not then it is essential that you buy one because they are full of exam standard questions for practice.)

The lectures (and notes that go with the lectures) are a complete free course and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
The only extra book you need is a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. It contains lots of exam standard questions for practice, and practice is vital.

Sir I wish to give my law exam after a 15 days preparation period (all opentuition resources and kit practice). I am confused on whether I should give my exam after such a short preparation period.. I passed my F1 after 25 days preparation, F2 after 1 month preparation and F3 also after one month preparation. With this speed is it possible I will pass my law exam. And also, how long should I prepare for F5 and F6, I will have 1 and a half months before March 2020 exam schedule for the preparation of these two exams, will this be enough?
And sorry I didn't know where to else to post this question, I would appreciate if you guide me with this!
J

You should post this kind of question in the relevant Ask the Tutor Forums, and the relevant tutors will answer you.

Hi! I wanted to know that if a question in F3 comes that doesnt say that if it's cash or bank transaction we should record the transaction as cash but in the revision kit why do they record it as bank ?
J
John MoffatTutor·
It really depends on what the question is about. Usually in the exam we show cash and bank all together rather than separately.
(It is not Paper F3 - it is now called Paper FA :-) )
S
samjamalpope·
Hi there, thanks for all you're doing! There seems to be information missing (large gaps on the page where you'd expect there to be an explanation) on the FA lecture notes... or is it just me?
J
John MoffatTutor·
Any gaps are for you to fill in yourself while listening to the lectures - the notes are lecture notes. Most gaps are for filling in answers to examples - all the examples are worked through in the lectures (and, of course, you can find printed answer in the notes by looking at the contents page)
The notes are only to be used while watching the lectures because it is in the lectures that I explain and expand on the notes. If you are not watching the lectures for any reason then you need to buy a Study Text from one of the ACCA approved publishers and study from there.

Hello sir, could u explain historical cost accounting, and there is this question that in times of rising prices, historical cost tends to understate asset value and overstate profits? could u please explain this.
B
Bennett·
I have found this in the Open Tuition site. Answered by Tutor Mr John Moffat. Please see the answer to your question below;
"The historical cost concept means that we value non-current assets at original cost less depreciation (based on the original cost).
If there is inflation, then the current cost of the assets would be higher (so using historical cost means they are under-valued) and depreciation would be higher if it were based on the current cost (so calculating it on original cost means that the depreciation expense is lower and so profit higher)."
J
John MoffatTutor·
Bennett: Thank you for that :-)
nawal2000: I do explain this in later lectures - you cannot expect everything to be explained in an introductory lecture! :-)
The lectures are a complete free course for Paper FA and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
(Also, please ask this sort of question in the Ask the Tutor Forum, and not as a comment on an unrelated lecture.)

Thank you so much for your efforts! I have a question though, I have noticed that F1 is more related to business and F3 is to accounting. Would it be sensible to study both F1 and F3 at the same time then proceed to study F2? Or does it have to be one by one in order? Thank you so much!
M

Dear Mr. John,
Kindly waiting for your reply.
Thank you.
