Thank you for explaining everything so well!
  2. justwanthi
Does the videos cover exactly all the topics provided by the acca syllabus?
  3. John MoffatTutor
They cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
  4. Alam
Good day, I was wondering how to actually prepare for the current FIA exams and later ACCA when I transition. Do I only refer to the lectures and notes provided by OpenTuiton ? I am still very new and with no prior commerce experience and have been struggling to find the relevant sources for ACCA preparations, past papers, exam kit questions and etc.
  5. John MoffatTutor
Our notes and lectures cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well. However it is also vital to practice as many exam type questions as possible. You can find practice question in the ACCA Study Hub and also in Exam Kits that are sold by BPP and by Kaplan.
  6. Aifa
It would be really helpful if there were subtitles in these lectures as it is difficult to understand your accent
  7. John MoffatTutor
The lectures are hosted on YouTube and if you click on the settings button you can choose to have subtitles.

The subtitles are provided by YouTube and not by us, so I cannot guarantee them to always be perfect, but they do seem pretty good :-)
  8. Kanishk0507
Sir are this lecture according to 2026 latest syllabus
  9. John MoffatTutor
Yes, of course. All of our lectures are up-to-date for the current syllabuses.

Hi. Why I can’t access the first lecture called introduction to Accounting on this chapter ? When I click the link to that video it keeps going to the page Introduction to FA video. Please

?s this course/lectures relevant for exams 2025-26 season?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mr. John,
I’m really glad I found OpenTuition – it has helped me so much in my ACCA journey. You were my first teacher for my early papers, and the way you explain things and make lectures fun kept me motivated and focused. I’ve now completed 10 papers with 3 left to go, and I’ll always be thankful for your support along the way. Wishing you and all the tutors the very best – truly grateful for everything you do!
  26. Dominik
Mr. John is great man, i wish him all the best, all god for Mr John and his Family

  29. Saidakbarkhon

  30. Zumrud
    Sir,
What should be done to get a 100 % score in FA? Is the questions from BPP and Kaplan enough?
  31. Muhammad Ali
Sir ! are these lectures still valid for upcoming attempt ? and please guide if these lectures are in accordance with latest syllabus applicable?
  32. John MoffatTutor
The lectures are all up-to-date for the latest syllabus :-)
  33. muhaliasif
I literally love you guys my school gave me 20 days to finish FFA and FMA and I am super new to ACCA and I was on the verge of a full on breakdown and panic attack because I didn’t know what to do and someone on reddit suggested you and oh my God you guys are like angels from the heavens ? thank you thank you thank you so so so much for this platform
  34. Arlon
If I'm watching the lectures and have course notes, whilst also doing practice questions and using the acca study hub. Will this be enough for BT, FA and MA?
  35. John MoffatTutor
Yes it is enough but it would be a good idea to also buy a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers because it is full of exam standard questions and answers. The more question practice the better :-)
  36. Mohsen
I only found 2018 version of the book , is there any changes in the material?
  37. Ibrahim
How can you tell if the book is the latest edition? As the deonr covers don't have years on them. Going to try get them 2nd hand instead. But wanted to know how to check it was the right edition before I buy it.
  38. John MoffatTutor
It will be printed on one of the first pages in the book.
  39. Ibrahim
sorry for al the questions and thank you for all the answers,

Seems i cant find any of the newer books 2nd hand, and Kaplan want to charge £12 for delivery for 3 books. BPP books you recommend after the lectures is the revision kit right plus the 20% off pretty much covers their £7 delivery fee.

Although i could just write on the e-books if they are in a PDF format? that would be a nice way to get it, although printed and pdf would be good.
  40. John MoffatTutor
They are not pdf books (because they are easily copied)!
  41. Mohsen
I only found 2018 version of the book , is there any changes in the material?
  42. John MoffatTutor
There have been changes. It is best to buy the current edition.
  43. Ibrahim
I have been a bit lax about the studies unfortunately, but plan on buying the first 3 books, and get a move on ACCA charge by the year not exam.

Is there a difference each year between the books or do i need to find the 22/23 books? as checking the kaplan website it just says FA Exam kit but no year on the front, as u have changed the title of the notes each year. 21/22, 22/23, thought i would check before i buy the wrong books
  44. Ibrahim
First 3 exams are suppose to be pretty simple right so just need to get the exam kits for those?
  45. John MoffatTutor
None of the ACCA exams are simple :-)
If you are watching our free lectures then it is only the Exam Kits that you really need (because practice on exam standard questions after you have finished studying is so important). It is always best to have the latest editions.
  46. Ibrahim
How can you tell the book is the latest edition? As I cant see from the front cover which year the book is?
  47. Dilnoza
Sir, Thank you so much! I really like your lectures.
  48. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment :-)
  49. Stacy
Sir, do yo offer lectures for FIA (FA1 and MA1) i cant seem to find them
  50. John MoffatTutor
I am sorry but no. We only offer free course notes for those papers.
  51. Jacqueline
Thank you Sir, your lecture helped me in rebuilding the foundation so I am able to get 88% in exam for only two weeks! I am moving to management accounting and glad you are holding the lectures too :-D
  52. Ritah
The lectures say they are unavailiable
  53. John MoffatTutor
The lectures are all working fine. If you are having problems due to your system then please ask in the technical support forum and admin will try and help you.
  54. peterparker
Just wanted to say thank you.

I've spent the last few weeks going over the FA lectures & accompanying notes you provide and have passed FA - and with one of my better scores to date.
  55. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment, and many congratulations on passing the exam :-)
  56. Aryan
Sir this lecture is applicable for my upcoming exam or not please guide me..
  57. mrx1
    hello sir im
beginning now i wanna ask you have you only used opentitution for study or kaplan bpp whatever it is
  58. John MoffatTutor
Who are you asking? If you want to get comments from other students you should ask in the Paper FA Forum. Our lectures cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well. The only book that is essentials a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers. It is full of exam standard questions for practice, and practice is vital to passing the exam.
  59. faisal
many thanks from this profitable lecture
  60. John MoffatTutor
    You are welcome :-)

    Hello Sir.
Today I took the MA and FA exams. I got 75 for MA and 92 for FA. Thank you so much for your wonderful lectures! I wish you all the best!
  65. Aira
How long did it take to prepare both subjects?
  66. Nga
It took me 2 months to prepare for these two exams! :)
  67. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment, and many congratulations on passing both exams with such good marks :-)
  68. Gladys
    A very big congratulations
  69. Ibrahim
So you studied and took the papers at the same time over 2 months or 2 months each?

And do the exam kits change every year or do they change as it doesn't have a year on it. So wondering if 2nd hand is ok or if i need to check the year the book was released.
  70. Hareem
Hello, I need guidance and tips on how to achieve that marks in FA. Can you share any contact of yours where i can reach you out ? I am very confused from where should i start.
  71. Sapph
    Hello Sir,
I have studied FA and MA by only watching the lectures from Opentuition and doing kits. And now I have passed both exams with good marks. You made the subjects easy to understand.
    Thank you very much, sir.
  72. John MoffatTutor
    You are welcome :-)
  73. Suwilanji
Nice explanations how can I download the videos
  74. John MoffatTutor
They are not downloadable. You can only watch them online.
  75. arfeenbajwa
Respected Sir, Will it benefit OpenTuition if we watch lectures here instead of youtube? or will it be the same as whether we watch here or on youtube, I just started F3 lectures, please let me know and I will follow, I just want to support team OpenTuition.
  76. John MoffatTutor
They are the same lectures :-)
  77. Seda
i think hes about views, hes asking is it the same counting views to watch lectures in here or in youtube ?
  78. John MoffatTutor
Oh I see :-) The costs of running this website are covered by the advertising. It makes no difference for us whether you view the lectures on our website or on YouTube. However it is easier to find the lectures on our website because they are all indexed (and, of course, there are other free resources on our website such as the lecture notes and the practice test).
  79. Zanele
    THANK YOU
  80. ishamadhani
    Dear Sir,
is there any partial marking in Financial accounting? In Business and Technology, there was partial marking in MTQ section. Is there any partial marking system in Financial accounting too?
  81. John MoffatTutor
    Yes there is :-)
  82. ishamadhani
Sir, is there any need to read BPP textbook if I am going through your lectures? I mean, is there any need to go through textbook, when I am attending all your lectures? Can I directly jump to exam kit? And which book do you follow to teach? BPP or Kaplan?
  83. John MoffatTutor
You do not really need the textbook if you are watching the lectures. The lectures do not use any book - you need to download our free lectures notes and it is those that we work through in the lectures.

A Revision Kit is essential however you choose to study. You should work through all of our lectures (and attempt the short online tests after most of the lectures) and when you have finished studying it is vital that you practice every question in the Revision Kit.

If you have any problems on the way then ask in the Ask the Tutor Forum and I will help you.
  84. ishamadhani
    Thank you so much Sir
  85. John MoffatTutor

    Hi Mr John,
I start course today, do you think i take exam next week.
    Thank you Mr John
  103. John MoffatTutor
Next week is too soon. Not only do you need to watch all the lectures but you also need to practice all of the questions in your Revision Kit. (I am assuming that you have a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers - if not then it is essential that you buy one because they are full of exam standard questions for practice.)
  104. Arjun

  113. John MoffatTutor
The lectures (and notes that go with the lectures) are a complete free course and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
The only extra book you need is a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. It contains lots of exam standard questions for practice, and practice is vital.

Hi sir please you can writh alitel good
  122. MMA
Sir I wish to give my law exam after a 15 days preparation period (all opentuition resources and kit practice). I am confused on whether I should give my exam after such a short preparation period.. I passed my F1 after 25 days preparation, F2 after 1 month preparation and F3 also after one month preparation. With this speed is it possible I will pass my law exam. And also, how long should I prepare for F5 and F6, I will have 1 and a half months before March 2020 exam schedule for the preparation of these two exams, will this be enough?
And sorry I didn't know where to else to post this question, I would appreciate if you guide me with this!
  123. John MoffatTutor
You should post this kind of question in the relevant Ask the Tutor Forums, and the relevant tutors will answer you.
  124. moscom
Because of Opentuition I'm planning to start ACCA coming March 2020.......
  125. Sardor

    Thanks a lot
  132. John MoffatTutor
I think you will have to use a VPN to be able to access.
  133. CHEN
OK and I will try. Thanks for your kindness.
  134. John MoffatTutor
    You are welcome :-)

  136. yangzoe
thank you for the lecture, it gives great help.
  137. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment :-)
  138. Amna
Hi! I wanted to know that if a question in F3 comes that doesnt say that if it's cash or bank transaction we should record the transaction as cash but in the revision kit why do they record it as bank ?
  139. John MoffatTutor
It really depends on what the question is about. Usually in the exam we show cash and bank all together rather than separately.
(It is not Paper F3 - it is now called Paper FA :-) )
  140. samjamalpope
Hi there, thanks for all you're doing! There seems to be information missing (large gaps on the page where you'd expect there to be an explanation) on the FA lecture notes... or is it just me?
  141. John MoffatTutor
Any gaps are for you to fill in yourself while listening to the lectures - the notes are lecture notes. Most gaps are for filling in answers to examples - all the examples are worked through in the lectures (and, of course, you can find printed answer in the notes by looking at the contents page)

The notes are only to be used while watching the lectures because it is in the lectures that I explain and expand on the notes. If you are not watching the lectures for any reason then you need to buy a Study Text from one of the ACCA approved publishers and study from there.
  142. John MoffatTutor
vusalpashali: Thank you for your comment :-)
  143. vusalpashali

    Very useful. Thank you, sir.
  147. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment :-)
  148. nawal
Hello sir, could u explain historical cost accounting, and there is this question that in times of rising prices, historical cost tends to understate asset value and overstate profits? could u please explain this.
  149. Bennett
    I have found this in the Open Tuition site. Answered by Tutor Mr John Moffat. Please see the answer to your question below;

"The historical cost concept means that we value non-current assets at original cost less depreciation (based on the original cost).
If there is inflation, then the current cost of the assets would be higher (so using historical cost means they are under-valued) and depreciation would be higher if it were based on the current cost (so calculating it on original cost means that the depreciation expense is lower and so profit higher)."
  150. John MoffatTutor
Bennett: Thank you for that :-)

nawal2000: I do explain this in later lectures - you cannot expect everything to be explained in an introductory lecture! :-)
The lectures are a complete free course for Paper FA and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
(Also, please ask this sort of question in the Ask the Tutor Forum, and not as a comment on an unrelated lecture.)
  151. nerissa
    Thanks very much
  152. John MoffatTutor
    You are welcome :-)
  153. Mohammad
Thank you so much for your efforts! I have a question though, I have noticed that F1 is more related to business and F3 is to accounting. Would it be sensible to study both F1 and F3 at the same time then proceed to study F2? Or does it have to be one by one in order? Thank you so much!
  154. Mohammad
    Dear Mr. John,

    Kindly waiting for your reply.

    Thank you.

    Regards.
  155. MikeLittleTutor
This question should be posted on the Ask ACCA Tutor forum and not as a comment on a videod lecture

I suggest that you replicate your question on the F3 Ask ACCA Tutor forum and then John will be sure to see it

    OK?
  156. rizwanijaz
Thank you sir for your lectures. Its very useful.
  157. John MoffatTutor
Thank you for your comment :-)

  160. mirzayevazahramz
Hi Sir, thank you so much for your lectures. I am new and i don’t know very much about this exam do i need buy the study text book from BPP, besides revision and practice kit or your free notes book is enough to prepare for the exam?
  161. John MoffatTutor
If you are watching the lectures, you do not really need a Study Text. However a Revision Kit is essential because practice as exam standard questions is vital to passing the exam.
  162. notadoctor
Thanks so much for your efforts.
    Great website and resources.
