The swap

Dear Sir i think I figured out the swap....am i right, the one party actually ends up paying the other party, be it through an intermediary or directly?? and the same applies through currency swaps but they are simpler?....and the libor or the curve is irrelevant really in terms of the swap deal except it has to be paid?
