Please can you explain the statutory term “ultra vires” ? Awaits your reply.

“ultra” is the Latin word for ‘beyond’ or above’
“vires” is the Latin word for ‘power’
So ultra vires means ‘beyond the power’
When someone, say your immediate superior at work, says that s/he is firing you, that’s likely not within their range of authority so it would be beyond their power (or ultra vires)
