Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well. I wanted to reach out to the OpenTuition community to seek advice regarding a predicament I am currently facing. I am an ACCA student aiming to pursue an MSc in Accounting and Finance in the UK.
Here’s the issue: I will be completing my Applied Skills ACCA exams by December 2023, & the Research and Analysis Project (RAP), by May [2024]. However, the timing presents a challenge as the result release date for the BSc in Applied Accounting degree from Oxford Brookes University (OBU) falls in September 2024, which is after the typical MSc application deadline in June.
I am concerned that this timing conflict might hinder my ability to submit a complete application for the MSc programs within the desired timeframe. I have already reached out to the universities I am interested in, but I would greatly appreciate any insights, advice, or workarounds that the OpenTuition community might have to offer.
Furthermore, I have also contacted the ACCA support team to confirm my enrollment in the OBU degree program and to ensure that I have opted in if I haven’t already done so. I am eagerly awaiting their response.
Has anyone else faced a similar situation or knows of any potential solutions to this issue? Your experiences, suggestions, and guidance would be immensely valuable to me. I am determined to pursue both the ACCA qualification and the MSc program, and I want to explore all possible options to overcome this timing challenge.
Thank you in advance for your support and input. I truly appreciate the collective knowledge and experiences of this community, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Best regards
June 29, 2023 at 11:47 pm #687519I think you have to think outside the box on this one and as you say cone up with a few alternative approaches.
When are you planning to do your professional level exams? I ask because the full ACCA qualification may be viewed as the equivalent of a degree for some MSc programmes particularly for a master’s in accounting and finance – but that obviously depends upon the individual university.
Some universities will take other factors into consideration e.g. a more mature student may be considered even if they haven’t got the usual 2.1 honours normally expected.
Alternatively if you could finish your skills exams in September and pass in . October you could submit the RAP in November and get the result in March 2024
Most universities will ask for an academic reference and therefore you may need to find an appropriate person who can do this e.g. a tutor if you are studying via a reputable tuition provider or if you have a RAP mentor with an academic background they would be suitable. The llatter could provide an appropriate reference as they will have seen how you have coped with tackling the RAP as that develops academic skills.
Good luck!
