Currently studying F5 and not going too bad, but i have hit a real brick wall with the Equations,

I will take more time to memorise them however, it really is even the basics i am struggling with, when there are two letters together knowing if i need to add or multiply, or with the learning curve formula knowing how to actually process the equation through the calculator

Does any one have any tips or real step by step breakdowns they can offer as i just cannot get over the line with these,

    Thanks in advance

    Scott

You should google instructions for your calculator. They all have a bit different way of doing the same thing. If you write your calculator model and make I can google it for you.

As far as dealing with the learning curve equation, boychenkove is correct – it depends on your calculator and you need to look at the manual (or download it if you have not got it).

However this is the only ‘difficult’ equation (and is given on the formula sheet) and also it is not a question of memorising equations. This is not a maths exam (and even with learning curves, question very often only require the doubling rule which does not require any equations at all).

For other areas where you need to use simple algebra (such as linear programming and theoretical pricing) have you watched my free lectures? The lectures are a complete free course for Paper PM (it is not called F5 any more) and I go through the approach step by step.

Also, remember that only about 50% of the exam will involve calculations. The examiner is more concerned in testing that you understand what is happening rather than testing that you have simply learned ‘rules’ 🙂

    Many thanks for the help

I will give the lectures a go on some of the subjects I am struggling with, i think I was getting thrown as most practice questions I have done seem to focus on workings technique so I may try and look at some mock exams to get a better understanding of what will be required for the exam itself

Thanks for taking time to reply

It is more important that you practice using a current edition of a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. Just looking at a few mock exams is nothing like enough practice.
Also, there are past real exam questions and answers that you can download from the ACCA website (although be aware that the format of the exam changed two years ago and so older exams are not longer representative of the real exam).

Actually, you don’t need a calculator for learning curves if you are sitting CBE exam, there are spreadsheets in part C, you can go there and use power function. Just don’t forget to clear it when finish! :))
