Just noticed some questions in the bpp exam kit about reconciling profits and I couldn’t figure it out logically. Is it important to learn the format of the operating statements or can I solve the questions without it in a logical way

The format does not matter (because you cannot be asked to produce one) – you can solve in any way you find most logical.
