Passed! Upper second class honours and this is my second attempt.
A word of advice to people who wish to do the RAP - find a really good mentor. I failed my first attempt solely because the mentor I had really had no clue about what she was doing.
PS - I live in India and I got my results over an hour ago!
Congratulations
Are the results release via email?
Passed on first submission with an Upper Second.
Results have been sent, check your email.
Results are sent in batches over a 48 hour period, so you may receive yours late. This is what is mentioned at the bottom of the results email I received.
Thank you! Yes, via email.
Has any KSA students received results?
Any idea what time KSA students will receive results?
Good morning,
I have received below mail, anyone knows why
"Your Research and Analysis Project mark and, if applicable, your BSc in Applied Accounting award have not been released as your Research and Analysis Project has been sent to the Academic Conduct Officer (ACO) for further investigation....."
I live in Bangladesh but I haven't received any email
I live in dubai. Just received result email. at the end of email this was mentioned "Note: this results email is being sent out over a period of 48 hours. Other students you know may not receive theirs until later. "
Finally passed the third time
I passed, glory to God.
What are the things you did differently the second time?
Same here
No clue but it’s because they are suspicious of us
Dear Admin
I got my email last night informing me that the result have been sent over to the ACO
I couldn’t sleep, I was restless, all sorts of thoughts came to my mind.
But afterwards I understood that I should have finalized my review points with my mentor
Anyways i ask for your guidance, as I have drafts of my meetings and communications with my mentor which are on WhatsApp, my final review is through email.
I have a lengthy correspondence with my mentor on meetings and even the final review stages.
I really think that my referencing was very generic, and along with that most of my research was secondary.
I took 11 days to make it, given the time issues I had.
Please advise me, I am desperately confused as to what should I do and what would be the implications.
Regards,
Work is deferred and referred tot he ACO for various reasons - sometimes it is because a student may have engaged in too much copy and paste and not used all of their own words. Sometimes it is because the matching program has identified identical (or near identical passages) or the marker has recognised that the work has been templated with the student just writing in and rewording bits but basically they have not put the whole report together themselves. This can also apply to the Presentation slides and /or spreadsheet, reference list etc. Occasionally such as with Topic 6 it is readily apparent that the alleged survey has been fabricated.
The ACO office will contact you at a later date and detail what they are concerned about and ask you to explain what has happened.
It is a stressful wait but that is the nature of these things unfortunately......
Well that's an official wrap for me. Got the OBU results and I've got an A for the report. Thank you Opentuition for all the support given throughout my ACCA journey as well as now my OBU journey. Special thank you to all the moderators in the OBU degree forum as well for their prompt response! All the best everyone.
congratulationss ! may i know who was your mentor please if u can share their details if not here then mail me please it will be a huge help . Email - [email protected]
You must have some ability no#crunchers if you got an A. Our aim is to help students to pass but if you got an A and your mentor wasn’t particularly helpful pat yourself on the back - you achieved your potential not just because of us but also because you put in the effort and had aptitude, so very well done - only about 10% of students at most get an A - so bask in your glory and enjoy your success!
This is what they have replied -
" Your period 44 submission has been referred to me for investigation as some doubts have been expressed as to its originality and your academic conduct.
Once I have received your submission and the marking reports, I will contact you again.
At this time, please do not communicate with our admin team or me as that will only delay progress"
I'm confused as to what they are implying.
I think this is just a generic email. It probably means that your matching score is considered rather high.
This can because you have passages that have been copied and pasted into your report from sources ie. you have not distilled down to key points and put them in your own words, or some of the passages match another student's work. Usually you will be sent the Turnitin report which highlights all the occasions where matches have been identified by the program and shows where text is identical/ near identical and asked then to comment upon the similarities
It probably also means that they have other students to deal with and therefore your case will be handled when they can.
Hey Trephena,
I hope you are well
I got an email from OBU , however they did not attach a turnutin report, they did state the below -
" The coursework you have submitted for assessment for the Research and Analysis Project has been referred to me for investigation because of concerns about its originality.
1. The turnitin report indicated a 97% match in your research report to other submissions including a substantial match to one student.
2. The turnitin report indicated a 99% match in your SLS to other submissions, most of which was to one particular previous student.
Can you explain this extensive matches please?
To assist me in investigating these concerns, I must ask you to explain how such similarities could have occurred. You may send me any evidence you would like to support a contention that this was, indeed, solely your own work, but please consider that my main area of concern at the moment is that which is set out above.
I appreciate that mail may take some time so I am e-mailing a copy of this letter so that you can begin gathering together your evidence. I am also aware that, like me, you wish this matter to be settled as speedily as possible so must ask that you email or post this evidence so that I receive it by 21st October 2022 "
Now regarding the RAP, I really think it's because of using a template of the RAP from scribd, and faulty referencing, but I have evidence of back and forths with my Mentor on email and whatsapp with review points and clarifications.
On SLS, yes I took a sample from the student room, and edited it, like in 3 days and sent it to my mentor. I really did not think that the SLS was also looked at for this issue.
The SLS is quite straightforward, and now I'm sure of it that someone in the past did the same thing.
Of the evidences they are asking, I have emails of my drafts, including my final review, I have whatsapp conversations with our May'22 group.
I always knew that I messed up, I did not even run a plagiarism check in the last few submissions.
My mentor told me not to submit it, such stupidity.
Should I tell them the complete like the above honest story, especially regarding my SLS? I am just freaking out with anxiety.
Please guide me
A 97% match to other students for the report means that over 7,000 words and phrases, paragraphs and sections are identical.. This is because as you say, you relied on the scribd paper.. This is contrary to the rUniversity egulations which forbid the sharing of work and /or use of templates as the work is supposed to be your own throughout. The original report would have gone through Turnitin before Period 44 so obviously it proves conclusively that you were not the person who wrote it as your report was submitted more recently e.g some time in May 2022.
The 99% match to one student for the SLS effectively means that only about 20 words were different overall - something which icould not happen by chance.
The rules are clear and you have cheated. Sorry if I am being unsympathetic but other students work hard and put in the effort and struggle to pass so why do you think someone who is lazy and can't be bothered to do the work for themselves should get a degree ? You have been found d out - and now you have to suffer the consequences for you actions.
Hey Admin,
I got an email response from OBU on my investigation, I posted it under another forum but got no reply, so I am posting it here
I wanted to ask was about the this paragraph and what it entails, because they still have not replied to me -
" You have the right to request that your case be re-heard by an Academic Misconduct Committee. If you wish to do so, you must set out in writing which of my findings and/or penalties that you believe are inappropriate and the reasons why. Your letter, together with any additional information you wish to submit, must be received by the University Student Conduct Officer (email [email protected]) within 15 working days of the date of this letter. You should note that an Academic Misconduct Committee can increase penalties as well as reduce them. Although in this instance, I will not be referring the matter to the Undergraduate Misconduct Committee for a more serious penalty, the breach is of such a serious nature that I will be advising ACCA of this matter"
I got a failed grade and I am allowed to resubmit

Maybe I can answer as I have worked as an Academic Conduct Officer?
In every single ACO case you have the right of appeal - this is in effect a hearing before the Academic Misconduct Committe as per the details above. The thing to note is that the AMC cannot normally overturn the grade, they can make decisions ONLY about the PENALTY. This is because the work is normally graded by the marking team before it is even referred to an academic conduct officer. So if failed by the team that fail cannot be reversed.
Possibly the only exception is where a report or SLS may have been passed [or parts of it passed] by the original marking team but the ACO investigation subsequently turns up evidence that the work was substantially copied, or possibly in the case of primary data that the data has been fabricated. The officer may then decide on the basis of this to award what is known as zero grade - which means that everything is failed and no elements that may have been passed previously by the markers will stand. The AMC cannot change this unless it can be proved that the Officer did not act within the prescribed rules. However any penalty that the Officer imposed e.g. the order that if resubmitting the student must do a completely new report or a different topic is attempted can be considered by them.
However as it says above, they can impose a higher penalty e.g. forbid any resubmission at all.
So your choice is either to accept your current penalty or challenge the fairness of it - but you would need to produce some evidence to support a claim that it was unfair in the circumstances.
Hey Gillain,
My Apologies,
I am new on this forum.
I did not know of you or the other mods.
I do not wish to appeal, I accept the ACO officer's decision 100%, what I am concerned is about this "Advising ACCA" and what that entails.
I came to ask here as I am afraid to email the ACO people, as they might get annoyed with me
Regards,
Dear Tephana or Gillain
I really need your guidance
My ACO firstly gave the decision based on the 4.4.1 breach and resubmission based on new topic and company. I was relieved, thankful and learned from this mistake.
However, as weird as it is, he came back today and is asking for additional information
I told him that in honesty I copied a lot of the phraseology from my friend and I admitted to it, gave the evidence of it ( emails and whatsapp convos)
Now he asking to give me the ACCA name and number of the person I took this RAP from, I gave him the name, but I cannot get his number as he has bluntly said no and has blocked me from all social media platforms.
Further he is saying that he will complain if OBU comes to him for this issue.
Now my ACO officer is saying that if I do not get his number, he will refer me to the UCC and ACCA, what can I do, I cannot force this acquaintance to give up his ACCA number, it's not his fault I copied from him.
,
Mmmmm. I am not sure what is going on their end. The way Turnitin works is that it not only identifies the passages in work that has matched but if that work has been been submitted to the University it actually identifies the student who did it previously (they can actually normally call up the original paper from their system) - so they would know his name and number already.
I am thinking perhaps he copied it from someone else previously... in which case Turnitin would have matched his work to an earlier student. The mentor may also have been implemented so perhaps they are trying to build up a case against them.
All you can do is try to co-operate and state this and give them the information that you possess.
