I have a 10 years experience as an accountant (5 years as a company accountant in a small company – UK subsidiary of a group) but I decided to quit my job a year ago in order to finish ACCA.
Hopefully I will qualify in October, just waiting the results for P4
I am now looking to relocate (Currently living in Herts) and of course looking for a job
My questions are these:
Which city has the best value for money and has high demand for accountants? I am looking in the largest cities only (Birmingham,Manchester,Edinburgh,Glasgow,Leeds)
I have wide experience only from small companies in both financial/management accounting .I want to work in a large company , but career wise is it better to become a Financial Accountant or a Management Accountant?
Any responses in all or part of my questions will be totally appreciated
Not sure of the demand in the cities you mentioned but it is worth looking at the job sites to gauge the level. London has the most number of vacancies and opportunities in my experience.
In terms of specialisation, this one depends on your own interest and strength, if you could be good at both, that puts you in a better position for Finance Controller or sole charge accounting roles in the future. If you prefer one over the other, then each is important in a business. Certainly, the demand depends on the season, I find that on some months, there are more vacancies for financial accountants than management accountants, or sometimes it’s the other way around.
Thanks eagledave , your feedback is totally appreciated
