    Dear Sir:

I am attempting P4 Paper from last 5 years and this is the only paper i left behind from my ACCA qualification. Every time i got marks between 43 to 48. I am still unable to convert these 40 into 50.I took coaching classes of this paper 2 times. Now i have have only two attempts chances. please advise what should i do. i am really upset.

All I can suggest is working through as many questions as possible. I guess you have already looked at the past exam questions (although there is no harm in repeating). I also assume that you have a Revision/Exam Kit from one of the approved publishers. If so, then get one from another publisher so that you have more questions to practice.

Assuming that you are reasonably happy with the techniques, concentrate on two things. One is setting out your workings in a way that makes it clear that you know what you are trying to do. There is rarely one correct answer in P4 – it is the approach that gets the marks. So much depends on assumptions, so state your assumptions – as long as they are reasonable you will get the marks (even if the examiners answer makes different assumptions).

The second thing relates to the written parts of the questions. There is much more written in the exam that most people appreciate (and question 1 so often involves writing a report – there will be plenty of marks for the words whether or not there are calculations). When working through practice questions, spend time making sure you really understand the points made in the answers to the written parts. Check on the examiners marking schemes for past exam questions what points he was looking for in the written parts.
