Hi
I have couple of queries:
1) I am thinking to sit my exam in September and thinking to buy second hand books from eBay but the latest edition available on there is 2018, Is there any change since then? I will be following OT and Kaplan.
2)I have done f1,f2,f3,f4, f5 and f8 so far and thinking to sit F9 in September, Do I need previous knowledge of this exam? Does this link with previous team? Thanks
April 8, 2020 at 4:30 pm #566856There have been changes since 2018 – you would be better to buy a current edition of the Revision Kit (and you can get a 20% discount from BPP if you use the link on this page).
Paper F9 is now Paper FM (the name changed over a year ago). Of the earlier papers that you list it is only some parts of Paper MA (was F2) that are relevant for Paper FM and these are revised in my Paper FM lectures.
September 29, 2021 at 8:41 am #636672Hello,
I couldn’t find smthng more aprox to my question so i am posting here – where can we find how each exam is linked with the subsequent ones? meaning i’m going in for PM in december which is linked with MA, LW was explained by Mike how it had only tangent links to other exams. i wanted to know how each of the exams MA, FA and later PM etc is linked with the other(where there is similarity/bond with exams) I hope i was clear, i want to have fresh preparations for ongoing examsSeptember 29, 2021 at 8:47 am #636674If you look at the syllabus for each paper on the ACCA website, then each of the syllabuses contains a diagram showing the links with other papers.
However our free lectures for each paper do include revision of the relevant parts of earlier papers.
September 29, 2021 at 9:06 am #636676I’ll check it. Thanks a lot John
September 29, 2021 at 12:26 pm #636683In addition to above information about formal links between exams there are also common skills and techniques between papers. Ways of writing and setting out reports for professional papers for example. Another example would be the way ratio analysis is used in a number of different papers albeit in a variety of different forms and ways. Hope this helps.
September 29, 2021 at 3:51 pm #636693@ Jon, i presume you are more advanced with the papers than me. i couldnt start TX UK due to huge volume and i cant get ready for december – thats why ill go for PM – but in any case im thinking the sooner the TX – UK the better considering all other papers are cross related to each other. any opinion?
September 30, 2021 at 3:41 am #636725The answer to your question of taking tax as soon as possible may depend on whether you intend to take advanced taxation as an option paper. If so there is an argument for delaying taking of taxation paper so that knowledge is fresher in your head when tackling more advanced paper. I would urge you and anyone else considering order in which to study papers, to read article by a tutor in September 2021 PQ magazine which discusses various strategies for determining order in which to study papers and pros and cons of these strategies. I think it’s a good sign that you are considering these matters. Wish I had been more strategic with subject choice when I took fundamental papers. Hope this helps. If you want additional advice or information don’t hesitate to ask.
September 30, 2021 at 8:03 am #636743@mrjonbain: well on the spot i am considering :AFM;APM and AAA cause i think are a viable way of being useful even outside UK – as i currently don’t live within UK or commonwealth countries. i had tight schedules due to lack of time during the previous exams, less than 1 month for LW in order to not miss december exam(although TX would have been the best option – but deriving from LW i thought that despite the intensity exerted couldn’t bring positive results with TX due to the volume, and considering work and family). As per above, what is your opinion on this schedule after PM : 1.Taxation (TX) 2. Financial Reporting (FR) 3. Audit and Assurance (AA) then FM, SBL, SBR?
Thank you for the insights, much appreciated 🙂September 30, 2021 at 11:16 am #636750I think that’s a good schedule given your likely options choices. You always have opportunity to amend it slightly as you continue depending on, for example, which options papers you think may suit you. With advanced Audit and Assurance, it is usually strongly suggested that you take strategic business reporting before undertaking the paper. I would suggest you also have a look at PQ magazine article I made reference to in above post. Think your general strategy is a good one. Hope this helps. If you want additional advice or information don’t hesitate to ask.
