Hello sir, i want to ask if we really are expected to write answers in such detail about leadership styles and job enrichment, Like do we have to necessarily write about mcgregor's theory or we can just answer in a more generalized way explaining the autocratic and democratic styles and explaining why the change failed.

(a) It is hard to talk about leadership style without some key theories or phrases. Answers are always improved by the inclusions of a theory to give them respectability. Even if McGregor wasn't mentioned, autonomy and participative approaches could have been mentioned. You could have brought the cultural web in too with reference to power relations etc.
(b)Well, you were asked, for 10 marks, to describe the principles of job enrichment and to evaluate its application to the scenario. So you have to write quite a bit. Having said that, I wouldn't have mentioned swim lanes (seems rather obscure to me) nor the 5 methods. I would have confined myself to talking more generally about greater responsibility, challenge and decision-making responsibilities in an enriched job. I would then try to evaluate the technique in the light of the scenario.
Thanks, i was just saying if in (a) we could write what autocratic leadership is relate it to scenario, write about democratic and relate it to scenario and explain why it was a failure and still get away with marks without using any specific theory?

Thankyou, moreover what is matrix management structure? I came across it in past exam question and haven't came across it in notes.
