Hi, I started study F1. From my background I am a Payroll Technician but I don’t hav3 any other specific knowledge in accounting. F1 as all knows is all theory based very boring part. If I decið to study and give before a more practical exam as F3 do you think could be possible or is too difficult? ( I almost read 2/3 Kaplan book of F1 already).
Thank you for your advice
August 30, 2018 at 8:34 am #470102I don’t see it being a problem to take F3 before F1. But why stop studying for F1 now you have already studied quite a lot for it? Although F1 is more theory based, the knowledge from F1 underpins everything other exam, so although you might find it boring at times it’s still important to know it.
Just warning you, to complete the ACCA you need to get your head down and study, even when it’s boring, even when you don’t want to, even when you find it tough, even when you don’t think you can do it anymore. It’s about perseverance.
August 30, 2018 at 9:35 am #470111One is not required to give the papers in sequential order so in that case F3 can be done before F1. But there are other factors to consider in your case.
As you mentioned you have started studying F1 and in fact done with 2/3 Kaplan book then honestly it’s better off if you get done with the F1 paper. And don’t leave it half way through.I know since it’s a theory based subject, it can be daunting and monotonous too, I myself am Not a fan of theory based subjects but let’s be realistic, you need to pass F1 one day or the other, and there are other theory oriented subjects like F4 and F8 (waiting for you) all these needed to be passed to get your ACCA qualification. So you can’t just procrastinate a paper to end just cuz you find it ‘boring’. Once you have passed these exams you don’t need to give them again.
F1 is a good paper to start with. And if you see F1 has the highest pass rates amongst F1, F2 and F3 (Advanced Knowledge Level). So passing F1 will surely be a confidence booster.
Studying F1 from a textbook can be really dull. So watch the lecture videos and read the notes. Practise questions ‘rigorously’ from an exam kit by an ACCA Approved Provider. Use the textbook for reference if you need to.
There are parts in F1, I think, are more towards one’s general knowledge and common sense.
Hence, I will advise you complete F1 and give its exam and after that if you want you could move towards F3.
https://opentuition.com/topic/newbie-to-acca/Though i do remember there was a topic in F1 ‘Role of Accounting’ ( an extremely lengthy topic- if you are reading from the Textbook!) this had knowledge of F2 and F3 but see, THIS IS JUST ONE TOPIC out of the MANY topics of F1. So NOT so advantageous of doing F2 or/and F3 before F1.
And don’t worry of Not having ‘specific knowledge in accounting’, F1, F2 and F3 has all the knowledge you need ( there is a reason they form the Advanced Knowledge Level!) which builds on to the next papers.
But yes, you do need to get practical experience relevant to your ACCA qualification.
Hope this helps.
