    Hi there,

I’ve always taken classes (day or evening) for my studies, but I want to sit P6 in March and there are no suitable classes for me for P6.

I was wondering if its sensible to sit P6 through home study, using BPP for the course materials. I sat F6 two years ago and did pretty well in it (found it the easiest of the fundamentals) so I think I’ve got a good foundation for P6.

Has anyone done P6 self study?

Hi, sorry to undermine your confidence but firstly you have not done p6 self study yet but just doing it currently. Therefore, and secondly, it does not mean that this is a sensible way to go (which was the question asked) so for me your answer is of a really low (if none) assurance.

I decided to do Self-Study, and, judging from my progress to date, I have overestimated the benefits of classes.
I’m finding self-study a lot more time-efficient. I don’t have to travel an hour each way to class, I don’t have to sit in class waiting for everyone go through the examples / all those questions they ask the teacher.

It just seems a lot more efficient to do self-study.

Of course, I am good at tax, so that could be the reason. If it was a unit I was bad at, I’d probably say something else!

Pawel, what you said is very true, if not a bit harsh.

Lotak, I am in a similar boat as you so when I saw your post, I was hoping the replies would reassure me in a way as well. I was attending classes for all papers except options. I sat p7 in December and it was the first self study for me. I passed and from this experience I could not agree more with you that it is in a way much more efficient than having group tuitions. However, Open Tuition does not have study materials and video for p6 which I have now signed up for in June. I need to buy materials so let me know if you use bpp and find them good.

    Best of luck.

I am using self-study for P6 as I have done for all my papers except P2. I used self-study for F6 and scored 73% at first attempt. I was using BPP Revision Kit only and covered all the questions. You can do it Lotak!

And there is also lots of supporting information that you can research on internet with the prefix ‘uk tax’ – specifically info from the authoritative website http://www.gov.uk – I use this when I require more information/clarification than is available in the revision kit.
