Herzberg – Hygiene Theory

MMargaux5y ago
The notes, as well as the discussion from the lecture, mentioned that the Hygiene Theory relates to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Specifically, the physiological and safety needs are classified as the hygiene factors while the remaining are the motivating factors. Now for my question, aren’t “social needs” likely to be classified as one of the hygiene factors? Because if you try to look at the notes, it was mentioned there that the “reasonable relations with colleagues and your superiors” is included as a hygiene factor. In my opinion, due to that example, it falls into social needs in the hierarchy as well, doesn’t it? Kindly enlighten me and correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you!

View like that if you like, but the majority of social needs are often met outside work for many people. The two theories are different and aligning lower order with hygiene was only done do point out some similarities.
