hi. i only just joined ACCA global and after talking to a few universities who teach the lessons, i’ve decided to self study the first 3 fundamentals and sit the exams through CBEs so i’m not restricted to the june and december dates. i am very much enjoying everything on this website and i truly respect what opentuition has made possible for students from all situations. my concern is, i plan on taking the exams this year (2013) and was wondering just how up to date these notes and lectures are and whether it even matters. i’ve actually found old study textbooks in the library (for exams in 2010), would looking through past books together with this website be sufficient enough to take the exams? *asking the experienced, would studying and then taking the exams one at a time be advised or is studying and sitting multiple exams equally achievable – with enough dedication of course. any advice will be appreciated, thanks!
January 10, 2013 at 2:25 pm #111835hey there 🙂
cheer up 🙂
Well , Opentutiion materials are updated for every exam sitting , but it usually happens after announcement of exam results , somehow 4 months before exams.
For the moment, materials here are updated for december 2012. And considering that there are not many changes in syllabus (if any) for knowledge level papers, you can use local materials without any worry.
Now as for old books dated 2010 ..U can of course use those and with all those you might even pass. But u need to bear in mind that here was a significant change in struction of knowledge questions in 2011. So by usuing outdated materials you limit your changes of getting more marks.
Try to get yourself more fresh books if possible and practice all the exam format tests you can find till it becomes very easy 🙂ah..you can also take a look at exam reports posted at acca global. Those are written by examiner after every exam session. They contain those questions which caused most problems for candidtes and explanations of examiner about how those should have been solved.
best of luck with your studies and exams!

January 10, 2013 at 10:03 pm #111867Hi Susmita,
i am currently doing P7,( if you know what that means).
Anyway am just saying that i started from F1 the first paper and now doing the last paper P7 so i think my advice should be of great help.right, my advice. never do Acca Papers using old books. this is not some degree course, it’s professional therefore it’s live and dealing with current/most recent issues. You need current years Books. say if you sitting any Paper in 2013 make sure you get 2013 textbook and revision kit. especially the revision kit. basically it is very very difficult to pass any paper without the revision kit. the revision kit is the exam questions so it’s a waste of time doing anything order than using the revision kit one month before exams at least, great if you start it earlier.
Opentuition is great, actually the best. am saying this because I attended Acca classes Both at University classes and online lecture with other institution but Opentuition give value added, well actually it’s free .
If you decided to attend class or online Acca lecture with one of the Colleges/university. that is great too as you always have opentuition for free. also attending classes increase your chances of passing your exams. You can possibly get away with somethings in the first 3 papers, F1,2,3 but the other levels are different, never forget the books especially the revision kit.
anything, just askJanuary 10, 2013 at 11:27 pm #111871hi! thanks for the advice, it’s very much appreciated. i have actually decided to purchase the 2013 books so hopefully all goes well. also, i’m only self studying f1-f3 and then i’ll be enrolling onto a college/university for the rest. thanks again and good luck with your exam too! (when will i ever get there!)
January 10, 2013 at 11:30 pm #111872sorry, i do have 1 question. do you have any preferences on the publisher of the books? i was about to purchase it from kaplan publishing.
January 11, 2013 at 1:16 am #111876Hi Susmita
I am probably one of the senior students in terms of age.
My experience:
1. Studies BPP books
2. Went through opentuition lectures and notes and passed exams
3. I took classes for F5 & F7 only
4. I am doing the professional papers now.You can do it. Just get the basics right.
Good luckJanuary 11, 2013 at 11:17 am #111905hi thanks! really encouraging and cool that so many (as i’ve read from various different forums here) ACCA students manage to pass these exams so quick and independently, however, in my case i’ll want that extra support as i go further onto this course so i still plan on enrolling with a college/uni after the first 3 modules. but hey, good luck with everything!
January 11, 2013 at 5:55 pm #112799My opinion on that one depends on how much do you know on the subject.
If you are new to the paper (subject) you are taking, say you have no knowledge or background then Kaplan i will recomment for you.
Kaplan books are in large letters and step by step. so it will help you to understands topic you never come across.
But if you have basic knowledge in say accounting then BPP F3 book i will recommend for you. there letter are smaller and are more detail i think.
but it can be too much info Having say that yet they are greats Books (BPP Books). i use Bpp for F6 audit because i did audit wit AAT before.
Most of the time i use kaplan because I prefer Kaplan.
don’t hesitate to ask anything, i will try my best to Help.
If you live in UK Birmingham i could help you more with one to one help when in the library. - AuthorPosts
