Hi John, I hope you are well!

I would like to ask a question in regard to paper F4.

Which one is more preferable to sit? GLO or ENG?

Do employees have a preference in the UK? I am currently working/studying ACCA in the middle east and my colleagues suggested GLO. However, I hope to move to the UK when finished, so I’m unsure if I should do ENG.

Or, does it not make a difference? Please help

Hi – this is Mike, not John!

There is a difference that you need to consider, particularly since it is your intention to move to the UK when you’re qualified

Looking deeper into the future, if it should ever be your intention to practice as an accountant / auditor on your own account (ie get a practising certificate) then English Law paper is the one for you

If there is NO chance at all that you would ever wish to practice as an accountant / auditor with a practising certificate, then either Global or English variant would be applicable

As a personal preference, I enjoy the English variant more than the Global, but there’s not a lot in it.

For example, the two variants are identical for 50% – 60% of their syllabi as are also the videod lectures

It seems to me that the determining factor is that unanswerable question “Am I intending, at some time in the future, to want to operate on my own account in my own name as a practicing accountant / auditor in the UK?”

If the answer is “Yes”, then you will need to have successfully passed the Law paper English variant (and the UK tax paper, the UK Advanced Financial Reporting paper and the UK Advanced Audit and Assurance paper)

Hope that helps but, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to post again on this forum
