Earning per share is the earnings available for ordinary shareholders divided by the number of shares. The earnings available are the final profits less any preference dividends.
Dividend per share is the total dividends paid to ordinary shareholders divided by the number of shares.
Most companies do not pay out all of their earnings as dividend. They retain some of their earnings in order to invest and expand the company.
