Two questions in this exam threw me a lot. Standard costing in Q1 and I couldn’t quite believe the question on Hopwoods management for 14(!) marks… barely anything in the revision notes for this and hadnt practiced any question on it. Q2 was also quite difficult. No q’s at all on topics such as PEST, BCG, KPI’s which was strange or any of the big topics. This was a very, very tough paper from ACCA and I’m very surprised they put a paper like this out.
December 4, 2023 at 11:54 pm #696087I found the section B questions really hard. I didn’t know what to write for both the b parts on ROI and RI for the different divisions and the remuneration changes.
I normally move onto the next exam to distract myself from the result, but this is my last exam. Really don’t think I’ve passed.
December 5, 2023 at 7:02 am #696105What did you write for budget styles? And how did you link it with Porter
December 5, 2023 at 7:09 am #696108Hello, can some please tell me what a performance hierarchy is? I had it in question 2. Had to describe it to the ceo. I know of the performance pyramid and the hierarchy of needs but never heard of the performance hierarchy before. I ended up talking about the hierarchy of needs. Did anyone else got that question. Would love to hear others opinions
December 5, 2023 at 7:29 am #696110I just put cost focus would be better with budget constrained as it’s all about bringing down costs in the short term, not worrying about long term and non-financial objectives, where as non-accounting is good for differentiation cause they’re not worried about the financial more about the level of service eg.
Then I just tied that to the different divisions based on whether they were cost focus/differentiation.
For part B I just calculated the RI and ROI and controllable RI and ROI by removing the head office recharge, but didn’t have much to write.
December 5, 2023 at 9:08 am #696119did anyone get the hairdressing question? Paper was a disaster from start to finish. Q1 on ROI/RI and EVA was the worst I have ever seen.
December 5, 2023 at 9:12 am #696122Similar to you I just put the effect of the methods on the divisions as best as I could. Still can’t believe they put a question for that worth 14 marks in the exam. Don’t believe it was a fair exam at all
December 5, 2023 at 9:58 am #696131I tried APM for the second time. It’s my last exam to pass. I did not have any particular issue with SBL, SBR and AAA.
For APM, I find difficult to provide quality answers taylored to the scenario for all questions within the time allocated. So basically, I spent almost 2 hours on Part I and only 1 hour on Part II, which is not efficient. My answers in Part II are quite straightforward unfortunately.
I had the Divisional scenario in part I and the Taxi / Divisional in part II. I am not satisfied with my performance.
Has anyone here already passed with success APM ? What level of details did you provide in the answers ? Were you able to taylor all answers to the scenario ?
Thanks and good luck
December 5, 2023 at 10:56 am #696135The exam is started to be more like a one side check, it is not checking your broad knowledge of apm
2 budget related questions in one exam , fully overloaded excel, Building block model- It was already checked in September 2023.
I read Bonus scheme exhibit maybe 5 times and did not get a point of this % increases and what author was trying to say
There is already no questions for report evaluation which was at least one big standard task which I really miss and on basis of which all the learning materials are builtDecember 5, 2023 at 12:01 pm #696141Really surprised with budget questions i.e. the budget styles. I can vaguely remember that from the study text, I’m surprised the same themes kept coming out in each question such as the budgets and divisions….
December 5, 2023 at 1:15 pm #696154Yep, the whole exam had the same theme to it, there was no balance to it at all and a few q’s were very vague. ACCA usually send a survey out after the exams asking what students thought… I’ll definitely be making a few comments around this.
December 5, 2023 at 2:58 pm #696164Performance hierarchy is Strategic goals being translated down to tactical goals and ultimately operational goals. Mission statement guides the hierarchy.
December 5, 2023 at 4:14 pm #696171That makes sense. Thank you. So no marks for me on that one then
December 8, 2023 at 4:05 pm #696393I think that the volume of information in this paper was too much for the time we had. Hope they will take a look at the exams and recalibrate the questions.
December 12, 2023 at 1:01 pm #696648It’s kind of balanced exam but time allocated for the questions was too little. Could not finish the last question. It was a tough exam
It was my 2nd attempt, same happened last time as well…. I didn’t get the time to finish Q3
I am very much frustrated with APM, no hopes to sit the exam further ?
December 12, 2023 at 8:08 pm #696664Got the same exam. In fact, I thought everybody would get the same one…
I wasn’t a fan of Q2 and Q3 either!
