Hello Everyone, I’d be very grateful for your advice on the model of calculator that you will use during f5 exam that does not display text but have the log and power functions. I have CASIO CLASSWIZ fx-350ex but it can display text like “log”. It has also too many functions and Im getting confused when using it. So far I was using the one on my mobile but mobile is not allowed. I look for a simple scientific calculator – please advise!

Displaying text like “log” is fine. What is not allowed are calculators on which you can write and store text, for example the Casio FX-9750GII. Notice how it has a button for every character. This calculator has a program function where you can store text, so if you were so inclined you could write entire sentences in this and make note to cheat from. The calculator you are using cannot do this so it is OK to use in the exam.

I use the Casio FX-83GT Plus which is perhaps a little simpler but it’s not that much different to yours. I think the trouble you’ll find is that most calculators are either very simple with not all the features you need, or quite complex with more features than you need.

Maybe you could try something like the Texas Instruments TI-30Xa?

Hi Chris, I bought the one that you suggested (TI-30Xa) and its perfect – simple but it has all the functions I need. Thank you very much!

I guess yes. I used CASIO fx-82ES PLUS A and it was ok. I just figured out how to do this log and anti log and it was ok. It has so many functions which i would like to explore. There were other people who used the same calculator at exam room. 🙂 By the way it is very convenient.
