Hi fellow students and visitors,
Not sure, it is just me or someone else has asked or pointed out this, I had an exam at Metropolitan University, but didn’t like the very small screen (I reckon it is 17-inch monitors).
It was a horrible experience answering Section C’s questions, as I cannot compare my answer, to highlighted marks in the scenario.
Rather had to use the middle bar to constantly adjust the view either to read the scenario, then to answer by having an overview of my points.
Any suggestions in/around London, whether CBE centers have larger screens making more comfortable to use?
Hi, I’m not sure if other exam centres will have different screens, maybe one of the ACCA admins could advise in a phone call/email if there are any centres with bigger screens.
I’ve done 3 CBE exams in different London centres (East London – Poplar, Hoxton) and Metropolitan University.
The Hoxton one is meant to be quite popular and their systems and procedures are good but I think the screen size was similar across the three centres.
I don’t know if you experienced this with Met. University, but they were by far the worst centre for organising the students in the right place, and there were several complaints when I sat my F8 paper in 2018, but maybe it’s better now.

I am not based in London (Dublin, Ireland) but am due to sit CBE for first time and have the dilemma of choosing between a few different test centres. I contacted one location to ask for screen size but they told me they do not know, as they said ACCA will be providing the computers in March for the week, and the location will only be providing the room (and maybe chairs, etc). I am going to email ACCA and ask a few qs (eg whether they have data on screen sizes in each location in Dublin, whether all workstations have to have partitions between them, etc) but I am wondering can anyone tell me from their CBE experience (esp if used more than one CBE centre):
1. Were all screen sizes roughly the same, little variation? (seems to be the case from above users comment)
2. Was the chair a good quality computer/office chair? Or just basic chairs from exam halls of written papers?
3. Did you find computer smooth and fast(no lagging), mouse worked well, etc?
4. Did all workstations have partitions giving good space & privacy between students?
5. Do you have to arrive 1 full hour before start of exam? Think I read this somewhere, sounds like a pain to be hanging around so long.
6. I believe they provide paper & pen to do rough work on – is this the case and if so is it unlimited (within reason of course – just don’t want it to be limited to a couple of pages per student etc)Still can’t work out whether move to CBE is a good or bad thing, but having reassurances on some of the above would help comfort the move 🙂
Hi Cathal – I have made a response to your same post here https://opentuition.com/topic/thoughts-on-cbe-exams-re-strategic-professional-also-in-general/ As I said – there is a standard specification for the set-up of a CBE centre – just as there is for any exam.
Imparando in London has got brilliant rooms. I always try to book there, if possible.
Spacious desks, comfortable chairs, clean, airy and small classrooms.
Cannot remember the names of the worst venues, but I’ve been to a few really horrible ones with teeny tiny desks, plastic chairs and old monitors & keyboards.
