Basic or Advanced Variances?

Advanced variances are more important because there will never be a variance question that is purely on basic variances (because they are examined in detail in Paper MA (was F2)). However, some basic variances can be relevant to the question. Also, given that always there will be part of the question expecting you to discuss the variances (only part is ever calculations) it is important that you understand basic variances in order to really understand the advanced variances.
