Hi All
I recently sat AFM and now i face a dilema either to choose ATX or APM. I know i find tax interesting but for career wise i dont know if i will ever go into Taxation, maybe just touch upon it. I was exempt from Tax as i studied that at uni and i did end up really good marks but not sure if that means anything in strategic papers.
I work as Financial and Management accountant therefore I feel APM would be perfect choice and in F5 i got 64.
I am just not sure which one to choose. Please help!!!!!
March 9, 2019 at 6:03 pm #508833Hi,
Well, interest and career path are factors but the main factor is securing a good first time pass. The main goal is to pass all the exams and get your ACCA qualification.
So that means it is extremely important to consider which one of the two you are confident that you will be able to pass well…May be by analysing your past experience in the fundamental level papers of these subjects. Which one did you find comparatively easy to study and got a good outcome. Here is a link to a post where I have answered a similar question. Have a look at it

Hope that helps.
March 10, 2019 at 10:07 pm #508970Thanks for the link, it was useful but I come back to the same point when I look at my fundamentals F5 I had 64 and F6 I was exempt from because I had a module at university in which I ended up getting 80+ however that was few years back.
Which one has more numerical and/or discursive parts???

My apologies for the delay in response…I saw your post right now:(
Alright. Firstly about the module, which region(country) was it based on?
Then when did you sit your F5 exam?

Now coming to this…
ATX is on the technical perspective unlike APM.
But both papers involve discussion as they are Strategic Level papers which is almost equivalent to Master’s level.
So, as I have just mentioned ATX is more technical with tax rules etc mixed with discussion in terms of tax planning and all.
APM, on the contrary, relays more on applied understanding. It is mostly analysisWhy don’t you have a look at the syllabus of ATX to see how much of knowledge you already have of this subject, gained from that module? I am sure it will be significant since you were exempted from giving F6 (TX).
However, I do believe your work experience will aid you in APM considering you not only have knowledge but application skills too.
