I took AFM back in March 2019 and failed miserably because I just didn’t study enough for it. I then retook it in June having studied a bit more but still failed. Long story short, I am overworked in my current job and suffering from serious burn out and I have realised that I am either going to leave my job or cut down my hours so I can focus on putting enough time to do both AFM (third attempt) and SBR (first attempt) in the December sitting. I decided to give myself a break in September because I need to change my mindset and allow myself some time to get back up and get on it again. I have never failed an exam until now so it is a little difficult to stomach.
I just wanted to know whether it is a good idea to take both papers together in December as they are both pretty different??
I want to start preparing now and ease the pressure of time. I have started taking the necessary steps to allow myself enough time to study both papers without getting stressed or burnt out from work etc. I am meeting with my manager next week. to discuss my options and see what they propose.July 22, 2019 at 9:59 am #524555Hi
I have two papers left and planning to resit AAA for the third time and APM first attempt in Dec. i am taking a break from Sept
SBR has a good pass rate! so you should be fine for that
two papers at a go is not highly advised but i believe four months to study it is possible and people have done it
i would say it is not worth leaving your job because of the exams
i do not know how bad your fails where but maybe it is just exam technique. are you self studying or with a tuition provider?
i would highly advise using learn signal as they have tutors who can correct your questions – you have to pay though
also watch all the acca webinars and examiner reports
practice all the questions and read the solutionsApril 10, 2020 at 12:45 am #567048Hi Niki10,
I am in the same position as you. I am attempting to do AFM (3rd attempt in Sept 2020 and I took a break after two failed attempts) and hoping to also start SBR (1st attempt). Just wanted to follow up from your post in July and if you followed through.
Thank you awogbod2 for the advice. I noticed the pass rates were alot higher so was a bit more optimistic about SBR.
