Hello! I was wondering if I could be enlightened on whether or not I should attempt p4 in September 2017. I failed in June 2017 session with over 30 marks and I’m not really sure whether or not I should attempt it in September. Will it be too rush for me if I sit for p4 exam in September 2017? Should I wait for december 2017 ? Will it be ok if I start p4 now for the september exam? Please please kindly let me know. Thank you!

By the way open tuition notes are awesome! Thanks for the lectures and notes! πŸ™‚

If you wish for me to answer, then in future please ask in the Ask the Tutor Forum. This forum is for students to help each other πŸ™‚

There are several things you need to consider. Firstly, if you do retake in September then will it just be the one paper. (I think it would be too much to take extra papers at the same time)?
Also, obviously, a lot depends on how much time you will have available for studying and practicing. I don’t know what work and personal commitments you have, and therefore how much spare time is available for you.

Subject to the above, then I would retake in September.

Make sure that you do have a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers and that you attempt every question (and learn from your mistakes). If you have already got a Revision Kit and have worked all the questions, then consider buying one from one of the other approved providers so that you have different questions to attempt.

Make sure that you watch the lectures working through several past Question 1’s from the exam, because in these lectures I discuss the approach to the questions as well as obviously the technical content.

Any problems you have, then do ask in the Ask the Tutor forum and I will help you.

    P4
Q1: expect section A questions to be mainly based on core syllabus areas such as project appraisal (domestic or overseas) and business valuations. Both of these areas are likely to include cost of capital calculations. Rick management may also feature as an asoects of this question in a number of different ways, eg value at risk, real options, hedging, risk mapping.
Q2-4: Risk management (currency or interest rate; business reorganisation; and real options are the tips here.
In section B one question may be entirely discussion based (but this is not guaranteed from June 2013), and often involves ethical and general financing issues (eg dividend policy).
