Hi All
Does anyone know if one needs to disclose a police caution to the ACCA as both a student and on applying for membership?
I think the answer is yes but want to be sure first.
Also, any thoughts on the likelihood that said police caution would result in disciplinary action/ a fine or, worse still, the application being rejected?
ThanksJanuary 28, 2016 at 9:35 pm #298390I think cautions will stay on your record for 6 years if you were over 18 when the offence happened?
I would always recommend honesty here. Tell ACCA. I do not know what they will say but I would imagine that the offence would have a impact on the reaction of the ACCA.I hope it turns out okay.
February 5, 2016 at 9:22 pm #299420Normally you’d not have to declare cautions, but the ACCA has an exemption from the relevant act of Law, so I believe you do.
As long as the caution was for a minor issue (they seem to be given for various levels of seriousness recently!) I’d think you should be fine. Not declaring it would bring your ethical character into account and probably be a bigger issue than declaring it.

Would a serious caution (non financial related) completely rule me out of becoming an ACCA member/student? I agree, honesty is the best policy.
Thanks.

October 16, 2019 at 4:41 pm #549786Best thing to do is to let ACCA know when submitting your application, they will decide if there is a matter to take further depending on if you didnt disclose it when becoming a student etc. From their point of view, were you hiding it when you became a student? Why are you only telling them now? It may be a caution that is not too serious and they may simply acknowledge it and carry on with your application as normal.
October 16, 2019 at 7:21 pm #549799I know someone got a caution after he registered as an ACCA student. In which case, he wouldn’t have anything to disclose upon registration. I hope ACCA will not take minor cautions too seriously and just approve the membership
October 17, 2019 at 1:18 pm #549883if a student/member and an incident occurs and there is a conviction involved then acca need to be told asap. this is all within acca bye-laws
