Hello everyone, just wanted to get your opinion on this, I have 3 P papers to clear and have them all booked for December and March.

Is it correct to call myself, ACCA Finalist? I couldn’t find anything on the web, so I thought I’d ask if anyone on here knows? The reason why I’m asking is ‘Finalist’ does look better on CV than PQ in my opinion cause the latter sound like you have more exams to do.

    Thanks,

    ED

On the part of ACCA, the term “finalist” has no official recognition. However, different parties, i.e student and/or employers tend to use this term and often interpret it in different ways.
Some employers when posting a job advertisement, mention that this designation is for ACCA finalists only and then in the bracket they mention for eg. P2 cleared.

While other employers and/or students use this term to identify a candidate who will be sitting all of his/her final exams in the upcoming exam sitting.
The latter is more commonly practised.

You can most certainly mention ACCA Finalist on your CV like many students do (Including myself, but I am sitting 3 final exams in December only) as there are no official conditions attached to this title so there should be no harm in the very least.

The term doesn’t have an official definition but I think is more of a historical term. You used to have to take the last 3 ACCA exams all in one sitting and pass them all in order to qualify (As my more senior colleagues frequently remind me!). Therefore you would be a ‘finalist’ if you had only these 3 exams left.

For me I would take it to mean you only had 1 or 2 exams left to do and you were going to sit them at the next available sitting, so I think for you to call yourself a finalist would be a bit of a stretch. I would say you are part-qualified, not a finalist.
