Got Email today saying that ball point pen’s need to be used black ink because they will be scanning papers to mark.

Would the Pilot Precise V5 be an issue? always used it but it is technically a fountain type pen

It won’t be a problem (providing it is black ink).

(I am surprised they have sent an email because this has been the rule for a long time now and is on the instructions that come with the exam docket – maybe they have been having problems with people ignoring the rule 🙂 )

    Hi John,

Thanks for letting me know. I thought the scanning process was new didn’t know it was always done.

I knew the black ink was always a rule. Here is what they sent:

All Candidate Answer Booklets are scanned to facilitate online marking. Therefore, for the purposes of scanning, a black ballpoint pen must be used to complete your details on the front of the booklet and when answering the exam questions. Please note that pencil, fountain pens, gel pens and other colours of pen will not be detected by the scanning technology and could result in questions not being marked correctly.

Well having read that, it seems that your fountain pen is not going to be OK 🙁

Always used a gel pen; never had a problem.

Probably there will be no problem, but why risk it? Why not just follow the rules? 🙂
