Failed 47 first time. Link theory was correct in my case. This was a though paper only managed to write around 80%. Question 2 threw me off and lost confidence.

Hi @jaj786 and @kabeermifras - did you focus on the topics covered through the questions in the exam kit? Can you please share your revision technique as I dont think its possible for me to remember all the rules from the kaplan study text which is over 1000 pages....

Hi passed my ATX paper with 64 marks in first attempt !!

@frafiq81 I purchased and acowantacy p6 online, which was one of the best investments! They broke down each topic and went through exam questions. I covered nearly everything, went over and over the topics on a daily basis. i had to invest a LOT of time. its not difficult just a massive syllabus to cover.

Pass with 58% now completed the ACCA after years of pushing.. amazing feeling. 18 exams sat, 7 of those being resits. Every fail is closer to a pass so don’t give up is what I have learnt through all of this! Good luck to all still sitting it will all be worth it in the end. Thank you open tuition for all your lectures and these forums I always looked forward to reading after sitting an exam or awaiting results. I will most definitely be making a donation ??

Passed at third attempt with 50%. "This was what worked for me:" I realised giving Ques 3 and 4 a good shot could be key in passing this examination. This is because the questions are more direct and marks could be gotten easily to bulk up what you get in question 1 and 2. kaplan exam kit (question bank) is very important and could be used to solve questions and practice to be comfortable with Tax planning, IHT, CHT, CSOP etc. With the amount of marks available in question 1, having basic knowledge of ATX should be able to get you between a 20-30 quite easily as there are marks on ethics, professional marks and some easy marks to obtain on VAT/IHT. So, getting a good 20-30 in question 3 should be able to get you over the mark. I hope you understand my point.

Hello there It definitely is a horrible feeling the way you are feeling right now. I myself have passed this exam after sitting it 5 times, but remember, where there is day there is night and where there is start there is finish! I have had many problems when doing these exams, family, work, no money and various other issues. Just remember, if you give up, you'll never ever get what you want! Below are the results that I got over my ATX journey; 25,45,43,49 and finally 64% now. Below is the technique I used to do it; - Make notes from a recognised book from a recognised provider - Keep on going over those notes and understand the calculations and methods used by that book, eventually your picture memory will help you remember key concepts - Attempt questions from the past paper books Do not give up, life is too short for that, any more advice please do not hesitate to respond

Thanks for the tip! I myself am very frustrated with this paper. June 2019 is gonna be my 5th attempt at this paper having gotten 35%, 33%, 36% and 42% previously. I'm doing the Malaysian variant of the paper and there aren't any resources of this variant online so I can only rely on my tuition provider's notes and the past year questions, which I've already gone through a thousand times yet still failing :(

@frafiq81 I wanted to make my preparation for ATX simple and clear. I purchased Kaplan study text & revision kit and I went through each and every chapter of the study text and attempted around 70% of the questions from rev kit plus complete past papers of last 3 ATX exams. Although it's not possible to keep every tax rules in your mind, practicing more and more exam type questions will definitely help you understand what rules are needed in the exam apart from the ones given in the question paper. I am not the brightest student, so my technique was to put count-less hours in preparation for the exams just to feel confident. Please remember to always allocate appropriate time when practicing questions. Because, the time pressure in ATX exam is immense as you should have already known...

@kabeermifras and everyone, thanks for sharing your experience

Same study method for me Kaplan study text and questions. Then in revision phase I found the Kaplan exam kit extremely useful, even if not doing the questions, but reading through the answers :)
SSarah7y ago#20
Just read the pass rate for this exam was only 33%.. crazy low
