Two words of advice I will give anyone planning to take the exam are:

    1. Get the knowledge
    2. Practice

    1. Get the knowledge:
This involves making sure you are using the most effective method of studying, e.g. self-study or getting a good tuition provider. The lectures on OpenTuition is very good. I will highly recommend getting a study text and a revision kit from an ACCA approved content provider e.g. Kaplan or BPP.
Also, think about how many papers you are sitting in an exam. Depending on other current commitments, would it be good to do maybe just one paper at a time rather than two? I find it better to focus on one paper and pass than do multiple papers and fail them. By passing the papers one at a time, it helps keep the momentum.
I heard a quote in a movie that says:

“The steps you take don’t need to be big. They just need to take you in the right direction.”

    2. Practice:
When you study, make sure you have got the knowledge and understand what you have studied. One way to ensure this is to practice exam standard questions.
Practice is very important for many reasons: you intensify your understanding, detect any weaknesses, and enhance exam technique. All of these are very important not just to your exam success, but also to your whole studying experience and also at the workplace.

One thing I realised from my early papers was that I fail not because I don’t have the knowledge, but because I have not practiced enough.
So I say: Practice, practice, practice!

I will say one thing to those who failed their papers:

Failure is not final, failure is a part of our journeys and sometimes a vital part of our successes. Some of us who passed have failed once or several times before.
In all things, it is the courage to continue that counts. So don’t give up, press on, and enjoy the journey. You are already a success when you decided to sit the exam. Keep putting one step in front of the other. You can do this!

All the best of luck to everyone!

    Passed with 64 marks
Used Opentuition videos in combination with the BPP P&R kit (I would say I completed 75% of the kit skipping some of the repeated questions)

Passed at 2nd attempt, 63%, thank you OpenTuition!
I have studied the OpenTuition notes, and focus on past exams. You need to remember not to mix evaluation of the report (usually in question 1) with actual report preparation, that is what I did the first time and failed.

I’ve been told if the paper is borderline pass/fail it goes off to be marked a second possibly third time more carefully. So rest assured you earned your pass, no sympathy given. So…congratulations! 🙂

Passed 1st time with 73%. As with all professional stage papers I felt I got lucky with questions on my strong areas, as the subjects are so broad you can land with bad questions so to those who didn’t pass this time don’t worry. Stay positive, keep going and practice practice practice past papers (even though they bore us to tears) congrats to those that passed and good luck next time to those who were unlucky this time!!

Yes, it does, it helps with knowing what the examiner wants and some times with guidance as regards questions, I have seen where questions were somewhat repeated or rephrased from articles.

I have attempted this paper 3 times! and each times it more frustrating as I am getting closer and closer to passing. Dont loose hope! the failed attempts will make passing that much sweeter, trust me!

I passed my AAA exam after two failed and i almost screamed with relief :).

Looking forward to sitting APM in March but unsure how the remote exam is going to go, at least we don’t have to wear a mask! I sat this exam in September 20 thinking I’d cleared the paper only to find I got 40%! This is a tough paper but would rather sit this than SBL for 4 hours and having to read through countless exhibits

Hi all and congrats to all who passed the December exam!!!!

Unfortunately, I did not pass and the worst thing, I do not know why.

Task 1: I used the report structure. The task was about the police department and if the new CFIs are better than the old ones and if the current reporting is good, the 3Es and league tables. I definitely addressed the mission statement of the police department and confirmed that it was a non-profit organization and shareholder max. will not be the goal. Then I explained the 3Es and addressed each CFI in detail with applying the current KPIs that could measure it or if a new KPI was needed. I also addressed the shortfalls of the report such as no numbers in % for comparison, no narrative information, no comparison with others and etc. Then I addressed the benchmarking and league tables. Benchmarking: functional, internal & external.

Task 2: It was about two Airplane companies: one that seemed to be a lowcoster (e.g. as Ryanair) flying to smaller airports and another (e.g. more like Lufhansa which) was flying to international hubs and valued quality. I examined the statement of the first company and analyzed why the claims were in that statement were not okay and why the differences exist and how it can be made better. I even did an internshipin the industry, so the industry was very familiar to me. I kept the structure of my answers as suggested in the ACCA online seminars and did not bluntly first write the theory and then the answer, but kept the answer structured.

Task 3: I could definitely address the benefits of the activity based costing and the calculation. The task was to see which boots can be produced further both or just one or how to change the design of these boots based on the calculation.

I did not consider the tasks that hard and I learned with BPP, online lecutues and I did all of the past exams. So I really do wonder, what went wrong.

I will be glad to receive any suggestions and advice.

    Anna 🙂
