    Question no. 2
you didn't ask for electronic methods of data capture, you asked for the methods of data capture.
so shouldn't the traditional method (keyboard entry) also be included?
  2. John MoffatTutor
    No!

Direct data capture is specifically the capturing of data without the need for it to be entered via a keyboard.

See page 85 of our free lecture notes.

levanrich: I must correct the test question. It should say 'which two of the following....' and the answer is range checks and format checks.
    Thank you for noticing.

Question 3. From the printed out notes, it has Format checks - to help ensure input is accurate. Was this a print error. Because the question asked: Which of the following controls helps to ensure that data input is accurate? because it is basically the same thing.
  10. Saanika
Sir, in the PM notes, both range tests and format checks have the same definition- to help ensure input is accurate.
In the practice test, I chose format checks and got the answer wrong. Is there any way to differentiate between the two?
  11. John MoffatTutor
A format check ensures that the input is the right format e.g. that if the input should be all numbers, then it is in fact all numbers. However it doesn't help ensure that a number entered is in fact accurate.

A range check, does not ensure that the input is definitely accurate, but does help to ensure it by fixing limits on the input.
  12. Saanika
    Understood. Thank you sir!
  13. John MoffatTutor
    You are welcome :-)
