I was wondering how much of commentary/writing is in section C? Is it a major part of the question, i.e question with a high mark?

It can depend on what you are asked to do in the first part of the question.

    The section C:
Can be 1 part worth 20 marks to calculate and explain and underneath the requirement it would say in a note how the marks are split.

It can be 2 parts , first part is usually for calculations the second written on the same topic, but quite often on something else. It can be split however the examiner has decided to say a 10 & 10 , 15 & 5, or 16 & 4, or 12 & 8 etc

It can also be split into 3 possibly 4 parts.
There is always a written element to Section C questions.

What are the typical topics in section C that usually have a commentary question?

Anything could come up in Section C
It’s really important you don’t topic pick and hope that it comes up!
