    Hi,

I passed F7 in dec 14 which means I have completed all my fundamental papers. I now have the final 5 professional papers left.

I’m struggling to decide with which exams to sit in June 15. I work full time and my work send me to kaplan to study at college

Im thinking of doing P2 for June 15 as everyone has suggested that it should be done as soon as after passing F7.

My question is should P2 be sat alone or would it be manageable to also study P1 for June 15??

I’ve also heard that there’s a September sitting being introduced this year – would it be better to save P1/P3 for this sitting?

P1 is very much a blah, blah, blah paper and, in that respect, it can be a welcome break from the heaviness that is P2.

On the other hand, P2 combines well with P7 because for P7 you need to be on top of IAS / IFRS

If you don’t want to spend 4 lots of entry fees (P1, P2, P3 AND P7) but only turn up for 2 (P2 and P7) then your sensible route will probably be P1 and P2

There are many students (and I sympathise with them) that say P2 is a challenge on its own so maybe just do P2 in June with P1 and P3 in September

    Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick response Mike.

How much of F7 is relevant for P2? Could I possibly sit p1/p3 in June and then do p1/p7 together at a later date or will I then have to go back and refresh on f7/f8?

I think you mean P2 and P7 (and then do p1/p7 together at a later date)

F7 is the building block for P2 so whilst it is fresh in your mind, then P2 soon would seem sensible. But, let’s be honest, by the time you’re hitting P2, F7 was not so long ago and a quick fly through the F7 consolidation notes (particularly) should not take you long

As for F8 / P7, P7 is rather more conceptual and “thinky” than F8 – it’s more an application of advanced analytical and problem-solving skills than the comparatively straight forward F8 requirements

    Has that helped?

Yes it has helped. Still not sure how I go about this though as I struggled with f7 and so I will find p2 challenging. I want to get through as many of the final 5 exams a possible this year and bit scared that p2 is going to hold me back from that. I suppose there is no avoiding it!

You’re right, there’s no avoiding it.

If it’s quantity you’re after why not think about P1 and P3 in June, then P2 and P7 in December. That will leave you with one option paper for 2016 plus any other resit if necessary

It also means that you can start usefully studying P2 as early as “tomorrow” and that should be enough time (9 months) to try to get on top of it

It will also leave September available should you have a hiccough with P1 or P3 – fingers crossed that won’t be necessary
