I sat ACCA FM in September 2026 and passed with 70%. As part of my preparation, I completed six full mock exams across three providers, with the following results:

- BPP: 74.5%, 65.5%, 68.5% and 73%

- ACCA: 70%

- OpenTuition: 78%

My average across the six mocks was 71.6%, which was remarkably close to my actual exam result.

In addition to the mocks, I completed all the BPP Exam Practice Kit Section A and B questions three times, and worked through every Section C question. My approach was to cover the entire syllabus, identify weaknesses and work on them, rather than concentrate on particular topics or simply aim for the 50% pass mark. I wanted to establish a consistent level of performance and build a margin for the actual exam. It was a considerable amount of preparation, but I'm delighted with the result, especially that I self-study!

51%. Passing on my fourth try, and the new revision mock exams really helped me get over the hump.

Congratulations!

that's very interesting, we have to make our mock exams a little bit harder ;)

Wow that's incredible mark! Well done. what is your study process? For me to have the time to blitz the exam kit three times i would have to cram all the lectures into one week . I took PM in Sep and got 65%, which i got 80% of the exam kit done and only three mocks done.

How long did this ask take?

Hi Robert,

This took 12 weeks, pretty much doing 20 hours a week (245 hours in total). Now the number is not the critical part, it helps, but its being able to get effective hours in, a lot of it was repetition to get things into ones head, and to keep it in there, immerse yourself in one subject, not spreading one too thinly. It is also like watering a plant, little and often is the best approach for me, but may not be the best for someone else. I try to get full understanding of the syllabus so that I am minimising risk, it is all about risk management.

  • Watched the OT lectures 3 times

  • Did the OT Examples

  • Read the BPP Coursebook 3 times

  • Did the coursebook examples

  • Wrote out the BPP Chapter Summaries to force the brain to process it all

  • Did the EPK 3 times for Sections A & B, recording the process to identify weak areas in section and syllabus

  • Did the remaining Section A questions once, so the EPK was done pretty comprehensively

  • The mocks were done under exam conditions at the same time of day to the exam, so was getting used to the time of day as well as the exam length

  • I watched various webinars about how to approach the exam

  • Read all the examiners reports

The performance report I got from ACCA today showed that from the difference to my mocks, I performed 12% better on Section A (82%), 12% worse on Section B (49%), and pretty much inline with Section C (77%). It is worth pointing out that the mocks were from three different providers, statistically that was 6 times more data to compare to the live exam as well. Also 2 marks can make such a big difference with the percentages in Section A & B

The syllabus areas were all above 45%, two areas got to that mark, but the rest were give or take 10 points above or below 80% So it is very important to study the entire syllabus, this reduces the risk of coming up against anything you may not know.

I can not stress enough about doing as much question practice as possible from the EPK, you get to see patterns in exams and this then means you mostly get to feel the paper. Having the knowledge is one thing, but it is understanding the question, and then applying your knowledge in an effective way, whether by being concise to get the marks, and most of all, presenting it in a way that is easier for the marker to awards the marks.

I wish everyone all the best, my Applied Skills are now complete, and now its studying Advanced Financial Management, which I started 14th September!

congratulations, Could you assist me with Section C? Specifically, which topic—Working Capital or Investment Appraisal—typically appears as the first question? I am asking because my performance in Section C differed significantly from my expectations.
