    Hi Sir Chris!

Just want to ask about markings for P2. Sometimes the marking scheme would say just “impairments 6 marks” but the model answer would define and apply fair value, impairments, goodwill. I was just wondering would we score defining and applying these or just the ones stated in the marking scheme?

Also, if we have defined the topics involved but misapplied it to the case scenario, would we be able to score much? Some marking scheme just says one mark per valid point.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Best regards,
    Kyler

    Hi,

The 6 marks would be split and marks given for your workings if you weren’t to get the correct answer, That is why it is vitally important to do workings and show them clearly. You don’t need to do any definition though as in the groups question you only need to prepare the accounts. The definitions are in there to aid student understanding of what has been done.

You can get enough marks to pass provided that you’ve put in the correct rules. If you were to then apply then incorrectly then you wouldn’t score any further marks but the likelihood is that you’ll have passed already.

    Keep up the hard work.

    Thanks
