Whether I study UK or INT, I’d like to know how or if this would effect my future career?
I have been told the INT will be good if I decide to work abroad in the future but in case I decide to start my own practice in UK then I need to study the UK variant.
I called ACCA for advice but they couldn’t help, all they said is the obvious…UK covers UK only…etc, and that they cannot give me any careers advice.
I’d be grateful if someone could shed some light on this for me please.
Many thanks!
September 11, 2018 at 6:22 pm #473153Not sure if this will help you but I think it’s worth sharing to help with your dilemma.I believe it is possible to take additional qualifications post qualification by emailing ACCA with this request at a designated email address. Therefore,I believe you may be able to take one and then the other.I also understand that UK version is based on International version with some marks being given for knowledge and understanding of UK legislation and standards as UK legislation and standards is based on International standards.
September 12, 2018 at 2:50 pm #474234If you ever want to work in the USA, they don’t really accept the ACCA qualification over there. You would still have to pass 4 exams to become CPA (chartered public accountant). If you want to become a CMA (chartered management accountant), you will have to sit 2 exams. People with ACCA qualification do not get any exemptions annoyingly. ACCA isn’t that international afterall but if you want to work in the UK or commonwealth countries, ACCA is more accepted there.
To be fair it’s hard to say if you would have advantage or any disadvantage regardless of which version you decide to sit (UK vs international), they tend to look at the actual qualification when it comes to working in another country. If you have a specific country in mind, I suggest you start researching now.
