I’m after peoples opinions on after how many times you should take an exam before saying maybe this isn’t for me and to try something new.

For example, I have passed 10 exams and now have my final optional units.

I have taken APM three times and AAA twice. APM I scored 49 (ouch) and then 46 and after this attempt I’d be lucky to score in the 30’s.

So my question is, as September the exam format is changing anyway – do I stick with the subjects I have chosen or change to AFM or ATX?

I don’t recommend something new as the pass rates for all options are very similar and it will now be a long time since you studied for the underlying applied skills exams.

I suggest you refresh your approach using all available resources – especially those you’ve not used before (tutor forums?) – or use the same resources differently. It’s certainly possible to pass well at a 3rd attempt with the right approach https://opentuition.com/topic/how-i-passed-aaa-at-3rd-attempt-73

Also, although it’s not really a change of format – just the incorporation of more professional skills marks – ACCA will be putting out a lot of support materials – webinars and the like, which you should help students re-engage with these exams.

ATX is almost 1000 pages of Kaplan book, too big to learn in time for September session. I liked AFM, it is really easy to learn and not time-consuming at all. And John Moffat is really helpful.

    Thank you!

I’ll stick with it, it’s just so frustrating!

Make sure you’re subscribed to student accountant https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/sa/student-accountant-direct.html so you see when new resources are available for options/professional skills – look out for webinars.
