Renting a room relief

Dear tutor, As per the lecture on the above subject, the property income assessment will be equal to Gross rent less expenses OR Gross rent less relief of 7500. So does this mean if the tax payer is opting for the relief he will not be able to deduct the allowable expenses from the gross income which is generally done in case of property income? Thanks
