Regarding CPD
I joined ACCA in August 2019. I came to know just today that all member of ACCA need to do CPD. How do we do it. Can any1 give me rough idea?
Thank you.
December 30, 2019 at 7:38 am #556510You will find everything you need to know on ACCA www:
“Your guide to CPD” is here https://www.accaglobal.com/lk/en/member/cpd.html – also on this page is a link to managing your CPD.
This is the link to the quick guide to CPD pdf: https://www.accaglobal.com/content/dam/ACCA_Global/Members/Doc/cpd/cpd-quick-guide.pdf
Here are some resources https://www.accaglobal.com/lk/en/member/cpd-landing/cpd-online.htmlDecember 31, 2019 at 8:37 am #556548I became ACCA member in the year of 2019 and as I knew the first year that I should have started with CPD is the following – 2020 . I can find the following on the ACCA site:
Who completes CPD?
All ACCA members active in the workplace should complete CPD on an annual basis. If you’re a new member then you must begin recording your CPD from 1 January after you become a member. You don’t have to complete CPD if you’re on our retired register.I am not in a public practice, so I am qualifying for a waiver. Should I fill the waiver form for this year, or from the next one?
Thank you a lot OpenTuition!
December 31, 2019 at 9:44 am #556556“Active in the workplace” means in work it does not mean in public practice. You will find here grounds to apply for a waiver:
https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/cpd/managing-your-cpd/waivers/how-to-apply.htmlIf you look here in the CPD record examples https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/cpd/managing-your-cpd/evidence.html
you will see that attending a course is only one of the many ways you can obtain obtain CPD.If you go to this link https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/cpd-landing/cpd-online.html and under type select CPD technical article you will find numerous articles on a wide range of topics. If you read an article and answer the 5 MCQs (correctly) you get a downloadable certificate which you can keep as evidence.
November 19, 2020 at 7:57 pm #595667Hello! I am wondering, when you claim CPD by reading and understanding technical articles: do you claim 2 CPD units of which 1 is verifiable by the certificate and argue that you learned for 2 hours?
Or should I claim 1 CPD unit which is completely verifiable for 1 technical article, do this for 21 technical articles and then simply claim 19 non-verifiable CPD units?
Thanks for your advice,
Martin
November 20, 2020 at 8:28 am #595716See here for example, https://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/member/discover/cpd-articles/business-law/sale-leaseback.html, you will get a certificate for 1 unit – i.e. verifiable – when you pass the test of 5 random MCQs. This then is what you claim whether it takes you 45 minutes to read the article and pass the test or 3 hours. (If you’re interested in IFRS I highly recommend Adam Deller’s CPD technical articles – they are very readable!)
So 21 such articles will give you 21 verifiable units.
There is a lot of interesting reading and podcasts available here for unverifiable CPD https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/professional-insights.html – in your CPD record it’s good to be able to record ACCA resources that you can download and keep for future reference.November 22, 2020 at 11:14 pm #596089Thank you for the info! I will look for Adam Deller’s articles. Would you recommend tracking the unverifiable CPD as well, describing specific articles etc.? Or can I generally claim 19 CPDs for books I read for my projects at work etc.?
November 23, 2020 at 7:26 am #596097Yes I would track it all – and also write it up using the tracking tool in myACCA every 3 months, say. If you have more than 40 units – any excess of verifiable over 21 will automatically be carried forward towards the next year’s requirement.
Every new affiliate should be aware that CPD is something that ACCA can and does “audit” – when I was selected to provide evidence that I had met the requirements a few years ago it was really easy just to give access to my records in myACCA.
November 29, 2020 at 7:49 pm #597041Hello,
does anyone know if taking an additional professional exam while being a member counts towards CPD and how many units would that be?
I passed optional exams for APM and AFM, I would be interested to take ATX if this would grant me CPD for the whole year.
Thank you
ArminasDecember 13, 2020 at 7:59 pm #599850Hello Arminas,
I do not know that, but I am wondering about this as well. I will ask ACCA and let you know!
Best!
December 14, 2020 at 7:43 am #599869@kamgmo – see here https://www.accaglobal.com/hk/en/member/cpd/your-guide-to-cpd/plan-do-review/do.html – “additional qualifications” is one of the many activities that can contribute to CPD.
December 17, 2020 at 9:25 pm #600210Yes indeed, ACCA just confirmed: Yes, any time spent studying will count towards your CPD.
December 20, 2020 at 2:57 pm #600391Thanks Kangmo,
did they give any guidance on how many verifiable units could one claim for passing an additional professional exam?
Inherently it takes many hours to prepare for prof. exam for the pass, but this can not be verified if self-studied
When I was preparing for SBL just practice kit with 5 mock/past exams alone adds up to 86 hours, on top of that there is study text and technical articlesMy point is prof exam requires way more than 100 hours, but since I’m not working in tax role at the moment would it still count as verifiable CDP? If so, one exam would be enough for two years CDP and I would definitely consider this option even though there is a rather significant cost involved, as well as the risk of failing exam itself
Or this would simply count as additional qualification even though it doesn’t really elevate your ACCA qualification?
Interesting they do not have this as a separate section on their CPD site.
I know it’s a long post but other people might find this relevant too, would you be able to share what contact did you use to reach out to ACCA, I could follow up with them myself?
Thanks
December 20, 2020 at 5:10 pm #600404You cannot claim every hour as 1 unit as everyone has their own speed – as a guide I know that for studying for and PASSING a 3 hour “written” exam of a professional study (such as DipIFR), a member can claim 42 verifiable units of which 21 can be carried forward to the following year. Verifiable points for CPD can only be carried forward for a maximum of one year (otherwise it wouldn’t be “continuous”) – so there is nothing to be gained by claiming more units.
I don’t think it matters that you are not currently “in tax” – simply broadening your knowledge with a new discipline is education. I successfully claimed CPD for studying for an passing GCE in a new foreign language – which I then continued to study, although not for additional qualifications. It has taught me a lot about English language as well as Slavic languages – and about communication and different cultures – lots of things that are relevant to a professional (!)
December 21, 2020 at 11:09 am #600474thank you Kim for clarifying!
I’m aware that taking professional exam is much more difficult (and more expensive) route to CPD than, for instance, reading articles with the test or attending seminars, nonetheless it’s good to know this is an option
Happy holidays to all!
December 2, 2022 at 9:30 pm #673154Hi there, I hope someone might be able to help with queries in relation to CPD for ACCA members.
1. Would studying available Opentuition lectures qualify as CPD?
2. If so, would this be the case even it is for a module that you have previously passed, and hence were using the lectures as a form of revision (but still learning)?
3. Finally, would downloading course notes and / or making your own notes qualify as evidence the learning was done, thus enabling the CPD to qualify as verifiable units?
Many thanks, LJ
December 5, 2022 at 11:08 am #673461@LJ123 – Welcome to OpenTuition!
Revision of what you’re supposed to know already by virtue of passing exams is not CPD. But say, for example, you sat APM and AAA and you’re interested in topics of AFM that are relevant to your work – you could study those topics and claim CPD.
Merely downloading notes is not verifiable (although I always document anything that I have “on file” in support of non-verifiable CPD).
ACCA has its own excellent resources for obtaining verifiable CPD – you can download certificates of completion to support each unit claimed – as well as save the related resource
https://www.accaglobal.com/sg/en/member/cpd-landing.htmlYou can see here “Recently aqdded CPD activities” – those that have verifiable units have a * (star) – read the article – pass the associated MCQs – and you can claim a certificate. All articles are free. Some webinars are also free.
And see this post also https://opentuition.com/topic/need-verifiable-cpd-for-2022-15-units-of-free-cpd-on-offer-from-acca
December 20, 2022 at 10:24 am #674964I am an ACCA member from Nov 2022 and would like to ask whether I have to make a CPD declaration before December 2022 or not. As in ACCA information it has clearly stated that “ new members must submit a CPD declaration from 1 Jan after you became a member “. But a few days ago I got mail from an ACCA stated that “It’s time to declare a CPD and need to schedule before 1 Jan 2023”. So I would like to know about the whether i have to declare it before this year end or not : as my ACCA portal shows that “You are all up to date with your declarations” and Released 1 January 2023(In professional development dashborad).
Thank you in advance.
December 20, 2022 at 11:26 am #674966@arjubagale – Welcome to my forum. As per my earlier post (above), most questions are now answered in ACCA’s “Your Guide to CPD” https://www.accaglobal.com/lk/en/member/cpd/your-guide-to-cpd.html
As you have quoted for the section under “Who completes CPD?”
“All ACCA members active in the workplace should complete CPD on an annual basis. If you’re a NEW MEMBER then you must begin recording your CPD from 1 January AFTER you become a member.”
So no – you don’t have to declare CPD – the “It’s time to declare” email is just a standard one that went out on 13th to advertise some courses.
December 21, 2022 at 12:11 pm #675016Thank you sir for response. Open tuition has always been my savior through out my ACCA journey.
July 29, 2023 at 12:22 pm #689093I became a ACCA affiliate on Oct 2019. I have 35 months of experience with one of the B4. I am currently unemployed and have decided to take a career brake. I would like to know if I need to complete CPD as an affiliate
August 7, 2023 at 8:10 am #689502@solfreak – welcome to my forum
See here the answer to the FAQ: “I am not working, do I still need to comply with the CPD requirements?”
September 26, 2023 at 10:50 am #692541Hello. Does on the job training for a new IT reporting system count as verifiable CPD.
Thanks you.
September 26, 2023 at 6:33 pm #692550It sounds very relevant! Be sure to document it using the recording tool!
December 6, 2023 at 7:58 pm #696275Hi Kim,
I let my unverified CPD fall by the wayside this year. Fortunately I’m on track for verifiable. I’m a little confused about how to break down my activities during work as unverifiable CPD. For example, if I spent many hours working on a complex provision in my job, can I claim it as say 5 units if it was about 5 hours of work?
Thank you in advance.
