In the PQ magazine January edition there is reference to the Hays Salary Guide which suggests the average salary for ACCA PQs is over £26,000 in the U.K.
I have 3 exams left but only 8 months experience of working in practice and my Salary is well short of this. In fact it is well below the lowest limit of the suggested Salary range.
What is everyone else’s opinion on it? Does your Salary fall into the suggested range of £23,000-£28,000? Should I be better paid?
December 19, 2016 at 7:33 pm #364046Lol, we should all be better paid 🙂
If as you say, you get paid well short of the lowest limit, then I can see why you feel short paid. You only have 8 moths experience, so maybe the short term low pay will be well worth it as you can use this as a springboard for a better paid role 🙂
I have just interviewed 10 people for a finance position within my department…..and how long someone has worked in finance does influence my opinion as to their suitability for my vacancy.December 19, 2016 at 10:48 pm #364052@michaelmonti said:

If I am not mistaken it was based upon the Hays offices in the UK so it will always be somewhat higher than the average job and tbh I am off what I should be getting too. However, I have got to say that experience is equally important and I imagine they would expect it to be a lot higher at a PQ stage.
I would imagine that the UK average for all accounting and finance roles will be a lower.
December 20, 2016 at 11:00 am #364075….mine is above the average, without any P papers. BUT I do have 9 years in my current job with experience in various areas. It’s all feathers to your your cap and if an employer is looking for that certain ‘feather’ then they may prefer experience over qualifications (not always of course).
I can honestly say when I was recruiting my staff I didn’t necessarily look for qualifications – it was the experience in certain areas I was looking for. When I found the right person, they came with a degree in finance and so got a little more money.
But I was not recruiting accountant/ manager/controller level, which is where they really want the qualifications.I’ve chosen to gain experience over getting qualifications quickly, but that was my own preference (I like to relate the material to something I’ve worked on).
Qualifications are very important for the higher spec jobs (where the money is) but every company will be different. I’m sure you will reap the rewards once qualified 🙂
