I wanted to know whether there is any benefit or use of studying past exam questions and answers before 2011. I ask this because from June 2011 there was a new P3 pilot paper so does that mean that exams before 2011 are not representative in terms of the style of questions that I will be expecting in my Dec 2014 P3 exam and those exams before 2011 can now be rendered irrelevant?
Is there any use of practicing exams from Dec 2007 – Dec 2010?
August 10, 2014 at 10:37 am #189138It is very mush still worth looking at apers prior to 2011 – but ignore anything to do with quality and quality control. The 2011 pilot introduced more F5 topics, but little dropped out of the syllabus except quality.
August 10, 2014 at 3:56 pm #189181Thanks for your advice. I also wanted to ask you that, I’ve heard some people who have cleared P3 saying that ‘the best way to study P3 is to dive straight into past papers and learn the models themselves and their application by studying the examiner’s answers very carefully and this will lead to a high mark. There is no need to waste time reading complicated and boring study texts or attending a tuition course. Past papers is all you need because in P3 the questions are always sort of similar and repetitive in style so just rely on past papers and make them your life and soul for P3.”
I wanted to adopt this approach, as I hate reading study texts and find the P3 past papers and the examiner’s answers very interesting and informative, so is it true of all what I’ve written above? Can I adopt this approach and be safe in the P3 exam, scoring a high mark this December? What do you advise?
August 10, 2014 at 5:00 pm #189191That approach could work, but I think it’s a bit inefficient becaus the theories will not be presented as a whole – only what’s relevant to the question being answered.
I agree that some texts are too long and miss the eal skill in this exam – which is not to explain theories, but rather to apply them. I suggest that you use OT material – the notes are short but give good summaries of what you need to know, as do the slides and lectures. If you read a chapter or two form the notes then you can find relevant ex questions by downloading our analysis at :
https://opentuition.com/acca/p3/acca-p3-exam-analysis/
This lists questions both by paper and by subject and will enable you to look at questions and answers on the theory you have just studied. This is by far the most effective way to address this exam.
August 10, 2014 at 6:34 pm #189241Thank you Gromit very much for your advice. In early 2014, I had asked you about F8 (not sure if you remember). I had told you that I don’t have regular internet access and all I can do is read the past exam answers and questions over and over again and you recommended this approach and I followed it. The good news is I got over a 75% in my F8 exam for this June 2014 sitting! So thanks very much for your advice.
